Just that - she's wearing killer heels tonight that I couldn't manage without being pregnant. Could you wear heels like that while pregnant?

I bet he would look cute if he did though

fair enough. But I think Nick Cleggs wife is always destined for a back seat role isn't she? Samantha Cameron and Sarah Brown both are women likely to be PMs wife and therefore will represent the country on the world stage. Their visibility in an election is always going to be higher than that of Nick Cleggs wife.
And I am not sure there is much difference in the visibility of Sarah Brown or Sam Cemeron - they both seem to be trying to be supportive yet independent. Not an easy task really

Personally I can't imagine a worse role and I don't envy either of them.

LadyThompson · 12/05/2010 15:31

Good post Pagwatch.

FWIW the heels weren't that flamin' high and I thought she looked very elegant.

sungirltan · 12/05/2010 15:35

i couldnt get my heels on when i was preg - i would have if i could!!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 12/05/2010 15:53

They were high! I was really struck by them as I couldnt walk in them anyday, let along PG and on cobbles. Thought she and Sarah both looked lovely. Thought their hair was nice and their dresses practically matching and most elegant.

Can we have a thread about the unreasonableness for we mere mortals of being challenged by role models like Samantha and Sarah who a) have high powered careers b) look really nice c) seem really nice d) have lovely kids e) have the emotional resilience to smile despite facing personal tragedies f) do good works and in addition g) have hooked a high-achieving husband.

I just can't compete....(though I do have lovely kids).

pagwatch · 12/05/2010 15:56

But that is me!

Except no longer have high powered career.
look Ok
Seem OK
Do have lovely kids
have emotional resilience
do good works - I keep many local stores open

And I didn't hook DH - he hooked me

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/05/2010 15:57

ooh pagwatch that is a cracking post.

I am lol at Oblomov's "shame on you mn'ers for this tripe of a thread".

I am going to copy and paste that all over the board on crap threads.

pagwatch · 12/05/2010 15:57

and I do have nice shoes too...

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/05/2010 15:58

I mean you earlier one where you said she is not even in the door yet and we are all ripping her to shreds.

Poledra · 12/05/2010 15:59

Yes, Pagwatch, get your DH into politics and as the next PM, thus ensuring that I won't be older than the next PM (an ishoo that is troubling me).

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 12/05/2010 16:09

Gosh, yes Pagwatch and then I could add h) has a lovely house to the list of enviable desirable attributes

pagwatch · 12/05/2010 16:11

Poledra
i could try for PM and then you would be a spring chicken

zippy79 · 12/05/2010 16:14

I only managed to wear heels once when I was pregnant for my niece's christening.

I'm sure SamCam doesn't wear them all the time and its not every day that your hubby is made PM!

mathanxiety · 12/05/2010 16:28

Are you all my mum by any chance? (Except Pagwatch and maybe a few others)

We are more than the sum total of our body parts. Or whatever we happen to be wearing.

LadyThompson · 12/05/2010 16:29

Bouncing Turtle, I wouldn't say she is heavily pregnant. She is due sometime in September. I am due at the end of September and you can barely tell I am pregnant and am still in normal clothes. Mind you...she is slender and I am more...portly.

Granny23 · 12/05/2010 16:34

Becoming a teenager in the 50's it was a requirement that you learned to walk properly in high heels. Being a short arse it was necessary to wear high heels to work, otherwise I could not reach over the counter, especially when 8 months pregnant.

BTW My feet never give me any bother but I do get cramp when I wear flats and my several spectaculary falls have occured on ice or when wearing flip flops.

Poledra · 12/05/2010 16:39

'Spring chicken'

More of an old boiler, me.

I did comment to dh last night that her heels were awful high while glancing at my 33 week pregnant bump and swollen ankles.
I think I am just bitter

grapeandlemon · 12/05/2010 17:09

Sam looked radiant, she is actually very pretty - she still has slim calves so she can show them in a nice heel. I looked 6m PG almost straight away so would have just looked ridiculous in heels.

Some PG women can get away with it without looking totally silly.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 12/05/2010 17:27

She looked fab, but the heels were noticeable - even DH who is not a fashionista commented that she was obvikously not expecitng to walk very far..
Given that she/they were obviously going to be photgraphed from all angles, thought it was a good choice. Tho did remark to DH that it was a freezing night, and Pg or not, I wouldn't fnacy standing there for so long in the background.
(BTW amazing how he spoke so long and eloquently without notes - s'pose in his job he must practice a bit, tho' noticed GB needed a crib)

twinterror · 12/05/2010 20:04

she probably took them off as soon as she got into number 10!

but hey why not - its her moment of glory and she;ll be in scholls and flip flops by the end like everyone else!

GeorginaWorsley · 12/05/2010 20:44

I thought she looked great, weren't they the Zara heels she has worn before?
I noticed how shiny her hair was,I bet she quickly washed it when Gordon was doing his speech.
