Just that - she's wearing killer heels tonight that I couldn't manage without being pregnant. Could you wear heels like that while pregnant?

LOL Boffinmum, Sarah Brown has a very large backside! Maybe both she and Gordon could have a bit of time off to relax and get fit - they both look very worn at the moment.

potplant · 12/05/2010 10:28

Bet she kicked them off and put her flip flops on as soon as the door was closed. If my DH was being made PM and I was meeting the Queen I think I'd make an effort with some posh shoes.

Boffin - Sarah is a large bottomoed lady there's no denying that- it was a nice dress though . I thought that GB looked like a different person, he looked refreshed. And how cute are his DCs?

(I was watching for the serious political historic moment obvioulsy, I barely noticed the shoes!)

BoffinMum · 12/05/2010 10:31

I have to say I would have worn a well cut wool crepe suit with a long jacket and pretty silk blouse, had I been SB. I thought the dress didn't quite work on TV. Must be hard to get it right, though.

kamsmum · 12/05/2010 10:32

Shoes were gorgeous.
She did look a bit uncomfortable. Couldn't they have given her a chair? Maybe it was the fact that she was leaning back and holding onto her bump as if it was going to fall off that made her look uncomfortable.
Do you think they have told her to emphasise the bump to show how virile DC is?

cheesesarnie · 12/05/2010 10:36

looked nice and expect she felt great.does iot matter?

BoffinMum · 12/05/2010 11:08

I thought she looked uncomfortable and this thing about the wifies standing by their man in such context always looks a bit strange to me.

Downdog · 12/05/2010 11:16

bet she whipped them off as soon as she had shaken hands with #10 staff.

"Hi Honeys - I'm very much at home now thanks" (puts shoes in hall cupboard for now).

I think they were awful heels & she looked silly - trying too too hard with too much unnecessary heel. Dress much better than the abomination she wore on polling day though (which the DM swooned over - crikey)!

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/05/2010 11:18

Shoes were nice, I thought she looked really good.

She is only pregnant, not crippled, why would she need a chair? She was walking tops 100 yards and she is not even that heavily pregnant.

What was she supposed to wear, daps?

kamsmum · 12/05/2010 11:57

I meant that the chair might have been useful and prevented her standing for ages in that strange "I am having to hold onto my bump and it is SO heavy!" kind of way.

She didn't HAVE to wear "trying too hard" shoes.

Agree with Boffin about standing by their man, literally. It is a bit strange looking in this day and age.

Bonsoir · 12/05/2010 13:24

I don't think there is anything strange at all about husbands or wives having their spouse accompany them "in this day and age". On the contrary, David Cameron is very strong on family values. I am deeply opposed to the idea that adults should live their lives alone and independently and that marriage/coupledom is something for the private domain only.

What a load of nonsense. whats wrong with wearing heels in pg ? she was probably in them for a few mintes. not 15 long hours or something. plus if she is used to wearing heels, won't be a problem to her. she won't feel unstable. i can walk in smallish heels very comfortably. whether pg or not.

don't eat strawberrys' when pg. don't wear an under-wired bra. don't eat this and thta. all a load of nonsesne.
shame on you mn'ers fro this tripe of a thread.

EdgarAllenPoll · 12/05/2010 13:52

my midwife who booked us in last time wore fabulous blue heels, and was about 6 months pregnant...which as she only staggered to and from the car in them were no problem..I'M guessing Sam Cam was in her 'office heels'

zebedeee · 12/05/2010 13:56

Keeping this thread tripe, did the brim of the shoes cover her dolphin tattoo? When David rolls his sleeves up to play his part in his Big Society will there be a something celtic inked on his beefy forearm.

ronshar · 12/05/2010 14:00

Really?
High Heals in pregnancy?
I mean really? Have I stumbled upon a 1950's thread?

Standing by your partner? What is wrong with that? Showing how proud you are?
Are they only supposed to be supportive in private?

potplant · 12/05/2010 14:03

what's wrong with wives being there to support thier DH? This is a huge moment for both GB and DC it would be weird if either wife wasn't present.

azazello · 12/05/2010 14:05

I thought she looked lovely and the shoes were great. I wish I could wear shoes like that when pregnant. I also thought SB looked good - she and Gordon looked incredibly happy in the speeches at Labour HQ. I don't think I've ever seen Gordon look so genuinely cheerful.

BouncingTurtle · 12/05/2010 14:06

My hubby was very concerned at all the walking around so much when she is so heavily pregnant. He thought Dave should have allowed to rest more.

Aussieng · 12/05/2010 14:10

I thought the shoes were nice and I totally understand her wanting to wear something nice and accentuating while in the glare of the world's media. And I'm quite sure that if I was going to the palace, I'd be wearing heels too even at my 30 weeks pregnant stage.

KiddingAnxiously · 12/05/2010 14:35

OK can someone link to these heels? I am obviously a rubbish google sleuth.

I would only be that she can wear high heels during pregnancy when I can't wear them at all. Heels + me = Bambi on ice.

bellissima · 12/05/2010 14:42

My charming DH said that SB's dress looked awful and that SC walked 'like a duck'. So that was his shrewd political insight of the night..

Kariba29 · 12/05/2010 14:45

I wore heels like that or even higher until i went on maternity leave @ 38 weeks

champagnesupernova · 12/05/2010 14:49

I thought those heels looked blardy high but they were "limo shoes" i.e. she only had to walk 100 foot up Downing St - bet she took 'em off as soon as they got inside

pagwatch · 12/05/2010 14:58

Poor Sam

She now has a period of questionable length of
her shoes are too high, she looks too frumpy, she should be doing more, she should be doing less, she is arrogant, she is too little wifey, she should be going back to work, she shouldn't be going back to work, her hair is too long for her age, she is too scruffy, fat , thin, polished, cold, warm, aloof ....

All she needs is to get photographed giving the new baby formula and the whole 'do as I do, meet my expectation, conform to my views' world of mumsnet will fucking implode.

We complain about how women are portrayed in the media and we can't wait....
Literally not in the door yet.

I can hear the sound of Sarah Browns hollow laughter from here

BoffinMum · 12/05/2010 15:14

I think that's a fair point, Pagwatch, but if you allow your family members to be seen with you at work in a public position, with the aim of adding to your appeal as a electable family man etc etc, they are bound to become subject to this sort of scrutiny.

Nobody is really saying a lot about Nick Clegg's wife because she wasn't so visible in the campaign and isn't part of a kind of 2 for 1 deal. It seemed a bit more modern and appropriate, somehow.

I would be heartily embarrassed if I was standing for office and DH had to come up on stage and say how much he loved me and how I worshipped my country at all hours of the day. I would like to think I could be a grown up and stand there on my own merits, a bit like Angela Merkel. You don't see Herr Merkel smiling adoringly at her over her shoulder for the benefit of the cameras.
