I dont quite know how to deal with this. I've got a blinding headache, have been at work all day. Within seconds of me arriving home with DS the little devil boy from next door is banging (not knocking, banging!) on my front door wanting to know if DS is playing. I open the door, he walks past me into the house. I say no, DS is not playing because its raining, and I have work to do. So he says, can he play at mine?
What do I do? If I say yes, they will spend approximately 30 seconds at his house, then will be back at my door wanting to play in DS's room (which has the miracle of a den under his bed)
I just cant be *rsed with arguing. Kid next door doesnt listen when I say no, doesnt respect boundaries, and has a tendancy to get very giddy and trash things when not supervised, and frankly I tea to cook, washing to do, bathroom to clean and you know, I just CANT BE BOTHERED TODAY!

So, am I being unreasonable to have ushered next doors brat child out of my door, locked it, sat DS in front of a movie and retired to MN with a large glass of wine while tea cooks?

not at all.

and start putting your foot down with this kid! (when you do let him in, I mean) When kids come round to play with my boys, they listen to me or they go home! They have become very obedient.

I also make sure I don't let them in every time. So at least one time out of 4 or 5, for no reason, I say "no they can't play today I'm afraid, come back another day, bye" and shut the door. For no other reason than to keep control and make sure they never start to think they've got a right to come over.

I feel your pain - well not literally. I don't have a headache but I do have neighbourhood children banging on the door!!!

On Sunday I shut myself in the lounge, put my trashy recorded tv on (Grays and Brothers and Sisters) and commenced the ironing.

DH came in and asked did I know child from 3 doors away (who we barely know) is sat on the kitchen floor playing with the toys! I didn't even know her name!
