To think DH should turn the radio off when looking after DC

and not because he doesn't communicate with them, but because DS1's language is becoming and I'm certain it's because the radio on constantly and he's picking up song lyrics! Today he was chanting 'fight fight fight' and yesterday it 'oh my god' - I don't like either from the mouth 4 year old but infinitely better than 'my hump my hump my hump'

So, AIBU to expect DH to turn the radio off when he's looking after DC or put something a bit more child friendly on than Radio 1! ? He's recently become a SAHD so they do spend a lot of time together.

Sorry but YABU and need to get out more!

Missus84 · 09/05/2010 22:10

YABU, and a control freak!

cyb · 09/05/2010 22:11

yabu

why not get some ear plugs for your ds when you go out...you never know what he might overhear in the street

CrispyTheCrisp · 09/05/2010 22:13

I think you have a slight point, although only from my viewpoint that constant noise does my head in. Yes he should be interacting with the DC's for some of the time and for the remainder crap music is not good IMO

CrankyTwanky · 09/05/2010 22:13

Yeah, yabu.

Why not furnish him with an ipod playing naught but Mozart and rote times tables?

EricNorthmansmistress · 09/05/2010 22:15

YABU
we have the radio on all the time if the TV isn't on. I can't bear silence in the house. You need to relax and stop being such a control freak.

lechatnoir · 09/05/2010 22:15

Oh bollocks guess that's pretty unanimous then . DH thought it was hilarious so he's going to piss himself when he sees this.

Oh, Crispy the noise does drive me mad which is why I switch it off when I'm home but when I not there it's up to them how loud they have it.

Yabu

it is very lonely being a sahp and radio on all the time is better than tv as background noise all day

CaptainNancy · 09/05/2010 22:16

Nope- YANBU- surely he can put CDs on instead?

Missus84 · 09/05/2010 22:16

If he's the stay at home parent, then he's in charge at home during the day. If I was a SAHM and my DP tried to tell me how much to interact with the children and what to listen too I'd go nuts.

SlartyBartFast · 09/05/2010 22:17

radio 3 of course,
not heard of mozart?

tethersend · 09/05/2010 22:17

YANBU- How can they watch CBeebies over all that racket?

CrispyTheCrisp · 09/05/2010 22:17

No lechat, Nancy is with us

VengefulKitty · 09/05/2010 22:17

YABU. My DS listens to Kiss 100 with me and he doesn't have a potty mouth!

stealthsquiggle · 09/05/2010 22:18

YABcompletelyU. (non-child generated) background noise is essential to maintain sanity when being a SAHP. My DC only hear R1 in the car and they sing along to all sorts of things.

SlartyBartFast · 09/05/2010 22:18

actually yanbu regarding radio 1,
yuch

SparklyGothKat · 09/05/2010 22:18

I have music on all day, I like music
