Where is the OP?

Name1 · 08/05/2010 12:42

Can I just ask, do some of you literally sit on mumsnet all day? I can't understand how some of you get confused and suspicious if a person does not respond INSTANTLY to a post. AIBU to think some people expect too much sometimes?? don't we all have kids here? Do you never leave the PC for half an hour to do something with them??

Please, lay of the "where's the OP" comments! it's stupid!

notnowdave · 08/05/2010 12:45

Yes, on here all day literally

Doubly incontinent and everything

belgo · 08/05/2010 12:45

if you start a thread, and you get answers, then why is it a surprise that posters want your reaction?

pickledmonkey · 08/05/2010 12:45

i suppose it depends on what the problem is.

if it's something that you've taken the time tto post and it's something you're worried about people would expect that you'd want to read the responses otherwise what's the point in posting at all? iykwim

itsmeitsmeolord · 08/05/2010 12:46

Your first mistake is "thread about a thread".

Your second is to be daft enough to start a thread about 3 or 4 comments from a thread you started which is overwhelmingly supportive of you.

Finally, I'm sure it was you who started a thread about you df about a year ago with exactly the same scenario, ie florida and school fees.

I was thinking bout it in the car at lunchtime and wish I hadn't bothered posting now.

piratecat · 08/05/2010 12:46

In my experience, most cries of 'where is the OP,' come when it is a really serious or emotive problem that's been posted.

Froid · 08/05/2010 12:47

YANBU. It's ridiculous to assume that people have nothing else to do but sit glued to a thread for hours.

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 08/05/2010 12:48

I think though, that if someone has posted asking for advice, or about a problem, or started a chat, or made a contentious statement, then they don't come back it IS a bit odd! Because if you have gone to the trouble of posting a question, problem, etc and then don't wait around to reply, it's like asking someone a question in rl then walking off before they answer! I think it's not unreasonable to think that if someone wants to ask something they will stay at least for a bit to get replies and talk.

Those who can't, and who plan to look later, generally say so in the OP "will be back later / going to look at replies tonight..etc"

so I don't think it's unreasonable to ask where the op is if they posted and then don't appear to be around to reply, if they haven't said that they won't be.

FrozenChocolate · 08/05/2010 12:49

Where is the OP? Why is she not responding?

TheCrackFox · 08/05/2010 12:50

"Finally, I'm sure it was you who started a thread about you df about a year ago with exactly the same scenario, ie florida and school fees."

I had such a sense of de ja vue about that thread. I knew it had been done before.

JackBauer · 08/05/2010 12:51

Where've you gone now?

GypsyMoth · 08/05/2010 12:52

hmmmm....where is the op??

yabu....we can post what we like.....so telling us to 'lay off' wont get you anywhere

ABatInBunkFive · 08/05/2010 12:56

It's very annoying when OP has been replying then dissapears and withing 5 minutes someone is asking where the OP is, and that does happen fairly often.

I'm not going to sit around for 30mins hoping someone answers to post straight back either, if you ask someone IRL a question they tend to answer it straight away.

Don't take it out on us just coz you've finally realised your boyfriend is a ponce.

I hope he's really handsome and gives you multiple orgasms coz I can't why else you'd stay with him.
