We had lots of leaflets through, and a letter from the labour party addressed to me by name but not one single person knocked on the door.

Hardly makes for good canvasing does it?

No leaflets as said before but

when I got there after reading up loads on overall parties but seeing nowt on loal candidates, I looked at the one I had just about decided to vote for and thought

Oh her, of course I will!

Her DH (our Assembly member) was amazing when ASD ds3 needed school support, adn she was really nice generally.

In the end, whoever I might have decided to vote for, it would have gone to her; a no brainer

We are in a safe Labour seat. We had a phone call at the start of the campaign from Labour, we said we'd vote for them, a few weeks later another call to confirm and I asked them to send a poster. We've had a few Labour leaflets and a UKIP one. We've also had hundreds and hundreds from the local Tory campaign, even since we put up our Labour poster. More money than sense...

Henri Van der Stighelen ? UK Independence Party candidate, Ilford North

I agree that it is not acceptable for candidates not to knock on doors. I have knocked a some doors and talked to people in the street. Even at this late hour some people have yet to vote - I have added my reflection on the campaign to date:

As the election campaign is now down to the ?poll of polls? when the people speak, or at least a minority of them, it is worth reflecting on some key points.

Liberal Democrats have emerged as a credible third option and Gordon Brown looks increasingly unlikely to achieve an election victory or a mandate from the people that he has managed ?without? so far. David Cameron has surrendered his polish to content and through the glare of the leader?s debates we can see that the three tired old parties have some things in common: dishonesty, policy and a lack of credible solutions.

Never before have so many ?cats been let out? of the proverbial bag:

? They all agree publically that there is massive debt and swingeing cuts will have to follow the election
? Nick Clegg had a Eureka moment when he demanded that David admit that most so called immigrants were in fact EU citizens enjoying freedom of movement
? The old parties have between 15 and 25% planned cuts revealed ? you may expect labour with the information to be in the lead, but you would be wrong?
? Suddenly labour and conservative have had a ?death bed? conversion to electoral reform
? None of them will admit they will increase VAT and evade the question with the grace of a Latin American side shuffle.
? They all agree that Gordon did what so many of us sometimes do and say one thing but mean another. Of course they all agree. Decent people listen to others and try to understand points of view and debate, agree to disagree or take it on board. The old politicians see opposing views as signs of bigotry, ignorance or political incorrectness
? .. and aren?t we all glad we are not in Euro like poor old Greece ? whose best option is to come out of the Euro.

What is even more interesting is that the solutions they seek are already out there in the UKIP manifesto www.ukip.org read it for yourself:

? Swingeing cuts are necessary because they intend to send £120B to the EU
? UKIP have been ?full square? behind informing the people of Britain about the denial by the tired old parties of ?freedom of movement? for EU citizens putting the ?mass? into mass migration
? UKIP don?t need to reveal 15% of the recovery plan. Come out of the EU, continue to trade successfully and save £120B ? and that is 100%
? We are all saying electoral reform ? but let?s kill the myth of the wasted vote. We all now know that no party in the UK in 60 years came to power with more than about 20% of the people of Britain .. and we brought democracy to Iraq? Only a vote for something other than your belief is a wasted vote
? UKIP will scrap the EU VAT system and replace it with a Local Sales Tax that crucially supports local democracy
? The UKIP strap line is ?Straight Talk? ? unless of course we are not allowed to say that?
? And finally, the poor old Greeks may have to get out of the Euro ? we will fight to the end to avoid going in and continue to fight to the end to get out of the EU and begin the Real UK Recovery
? If ever there was a ?death bed? conversion it is the three tired old parties coming over to UKIP policies that are in the manifesto. Of course they won?t actually convert so the people will need to kick them out of the ?bed? with a vote for the UK Independence Party

We didn't get any either, although some canvassers did come down our road the other day whilst DH was working in the garden with no shirt on (improving his tan) and they obviously concluded he couldn't possibly be the occupier (gardener, perhaps?) being so scruffy, as they totally ignored him and carried on to the next house. Nice! Needless to say, that party didn't get our vote.

rocknstroll · 06/05/2010 17:15

who are you all expecting to come?
PArty membership has gone way down, and it takes for the few remaining volunteers to want to give up all of their free time to get round everyone at election time, so specific areas at targetted = because they are particularly at risk or particularly marginal - if we want people knocking on our doors we've got to get out there and get involved and start knocking on other people's doors! Though not our own - bit pointless,

shockers · 06/05/2010 17:39

We had some Labour bods round, as well as 2 letters and a leaflet from them.... they really want me!

KathrynCrawford · 06/05/2010 18:16

Went to vote early this morning. Although living in a marginal nobody at all has canvassed us. I think there were only a couple of hundred votes between the reds and blues last time as well so a pretty poor show really!

Louplet · 06/05/2010 18:37

The only one we got was one of the Green candidates for our local council. He seemed very nervous but very sincere and I definitely thought he deserved my vote for at least making the effort. No candidates for MP at all, again presumably as it is a safe seat but I find that really aggravating and patronising.

roundthebend4 · 06/05/2010 19:38

Nothing here no leaflets no door knockers guessing since only 30 houses were not important .Yet for first time I had things i would have like to grill them on .Except for ukip or Bnp them I would just like to grill them slowly over a hot fire

elsiefergie · 06/05/2010 19:59

Labour and Lib Dem both in the past.
Loads of leaflets from Lib Dem (most) Lab,SNP,
Green, SSWP? and one Con.
And just as I was having my tea tonight the Lib Dem candidate!
Can you tell I'm in a very marginal seat....

elsiefergie · 06/05/2010 20:24

Oh and just had a car with a loud hailer tanoy thing go past for Labour. How old school!

Shimmer · 06/05/2010 22:52

I live in a large-ish size town and have had NO leaflets and NO callers. What on earth could i have done??!

babymutha · 07/05/2010 00:35

You are all so lucky.
The last 3 weeks has been relentless. The 3 main parties have written to us personally at least 3 times each, the greens and UKIP once. Labour have written personally about 12 times !!! and sometimes twice on the same day from local and national level(they really want our vote) and would-be local councillors have turned up on the doorstep numerous times, and the would-be Tory MP although I don't think she stands a chance here. The Lib Dems and Labour have called round twice today just to check that we've voted. We have. Fat lot of good that it will do us anyway. I will be so glad when this is over and we can slide mercilessly into post-election austerity and depression.
