to be disappointed that we didn't get one single political campaigner knocking on our door?

We had lots of leaflets through, and a letter from the labour party addressed to me by name but not one single person knocked on the door.

Hardly makes for good canvasing does it?

I live in a seat where only 350 votes could sway it and still no-one has been round, only had the labour canditates leaflet this morning!

dobbyssocks · 05/05/2010 20:10

None here either! We've had the Lib Dem leaflet twice, a UKIP and Labour leaflet and thats it. ITs a safe Labour seat so it seems the Tories haven't even bothered. Just used the votefinder tool on another thread and my vote is worth 0.009 compared to a normal vote in my area .

Glad we didn't have a visit from a BNP candidate though I don't think I'd be responsible for my actions.

iloverhubarbcrumble · 05/05/2010 20:15

Hundred of leaflets, a green one today! - in a lib dem marginal, could go tory, maybe not now tho..

I moaned about noone knocking on the door, just shoving their endless crap through it instead, then suddenly 6.30pm one eve last week, a lib dem person, oh a councillor, then plus the leader of the council, on my doorstep! Could I think of any questions, no oh just, hang on I'm cooking, I don't like your silly leaflets, you need to persuade my labour voting husband, not me.. So the man of the house took over while I retreated to the kitchen. Bloody hell I've got millions of questions to ask them about local stuff, plus national. Thought of them all the day after...

But I was stil impressed they came, not just one it was the whole bloody lot of them (lib dem bit of the council) out there in the street. Good on them.

costagirl · 05/05/2010 20:26

Oh so it's not just us that haven't seen sight nor sound of a candidate! Haven't had any literature through the door, apart from UKIP, and have NO information to help me decide which way to vote. Have been trawling through manifestos on web sites - should it be this much hard work? Had assumed if they wanted my vote they might bother to make some effort.....

keepcalmcarryon · 05/05/2010 20:38

Loads of leaflets (Tory/Lab/UKIP/BNP) but nothing from the Lib Dems. Labour candidate came round canvassing tonight. DH went to school with her, so all rather strange!

sunshiney · 05/05/2010 20:41

We had Edwina Currie knock on our door. DH was stunned speechless.

Apparently she lives somewhere nearby (Surrey)

RollaCoasta · 05/05/2010 20:44

I think it's appalling! No canvassers and a couple of leaflets. Even the leaflets targetted one or other of us, not all of us! Seems like we're stuck here on Planet Tory and no-one else thinks they have a hope in hell.

feedthegoat · 05/05/2010 20:47

We've not had anyone either and only 3 leaflets. Doesn't really surprise though as we are in a very safe labour seat so probably not worth anyones time.

Kaloki · 05/05/2010 20:55

None at the door, though we did see a Tory canvasser having a nice chat with the neighbourhood drug dealers. Wonder if he thought he was being "down with the kids" talking to the chavs.

cory · 05/05/2010 21:02

We had the Tory boy round, following the leaflet of Dear Mrs Cory, you will shortly have the opportunity of deciding the destiny of the nation by kicking those nasty immigrants out.

I took great delight in telling him that no, actually I won't, because I am one of those nasty immigrants and consequently do not have the vote.

OrmRenewed · 05/05/2010 21:04

We didn't either.

Not one.

Did get a Sky salesman so I was rude to him instead.

pinkfizzle · 05/05/2010 21:08

I am in a safe labour seat I got one glossy pamplet - with the MP standing next to someone who is local and who I detest.. and tonight I got a letter from my mp?

Pretty poor.

mowbraygirl · 05/05/2010 21:08

We also have had no one around just lots of leaflets another one tonight, recycling sack is full this week. We also have council elections tomorrow in our area it is the local Residents Association who hold the 3 seats and they really do a good job. They were around canvassing the other night saw them just as we were going out know one of them so just waved to her.

LostArtOfKeepingASecret · 05/05/2010 21:18

We're on the edge of two seats here. Last week about five cars park up on our street, loads of people got out of the cars, huddled together pointing and passing leaflets around and then pissed off round the corner to the neighbouring constituency.

I spent a wasted 10 minutes hiding behind the sofa.

Wigeon · 05/05/2010 21:21

Three way marginal here - only doorsteppers was the Green Parliamentary Candidate (aged 27).

However, practically daily leaflets from the three main parties. Possibly some this last week it has been more frequent than daily in fact.

Sample Labour / Lib Dem leaflet: "TORIES PLEDGE TO CLOSE LOCAL HOSPITAL! DON'T LET THE TORIES CLOSE OUR HOSPITAL! SAVE OUR HOSPITAL!"

Sample Conservative leaflet: "LOCAL HOSPTITAL SAFE WITH US! WE ARE NOW WAY GONNA CLOSE IT WE PLEDGE NOT TO CLOSE IT! KICK THOSE IMMIGRANTS OUT HANG EM FLOG EM VOTE FOR CHANGE"

androbbob · 05/05/2010 21:40

Gosh we must live in a good to fight for seat - me and DH have had 4 letters / postcards from Dave, two letters from Gordo as well as several tonnes of leaflets from local candidates.

We also had 'two knocks on the door' callers - the Labour bod for the general election - Bill - who asked me 3 times who I was voting for and what type of government I wanted - gave him no info! Fair game!!

The other one I did not answer to as I was in my PJ's!

We are in the North West and our local councillor has been Lib Dem for years. The general election seat has had its borders changed for this election so we are in a ward that has a strong blue area, a yellow area and a red area, so I reckon it will be a tough fight. I will be checking on the local council website on Friday to see who won!

oceryo · 05/05/2010 22:02

How much of a party's funding should be spent on sending people out door-knocking, especially in safe seats?

101damnations · 05/05/2010 22:06

We live in a safe Tory seat, and have had fliers from everyone apart from Labour-who probably know they are wasting their time.We have had no canvassers at all, which is odd and rather disappointing.I like a good debate.DH had a flier addressed to him by name, from the Conservatives, but I didn't.

I got a phone call from the local tory candidates flunky, asking did I want to raise any concerns with them. Only one issue says I, its about cold callers, you know the ones that get your details off the electoral roll and then don't bother checking with TPS to see if I am registered (I am), and then ring me and waste my time. Silence from flunky. I hope you'll pass on my concerns to posh tory boy standing as candidate, I asked. Flunky mumbles that she will pass on my message, and hurriedly hung up

suzi2 · 05/05/2010 22:58

I'm in a safe labour seat and barely got a leaflet through and other candidates are the random people they have lying about the back of the office somewhere. They're not putting their good people up!

notsureatall · 05/05/2010 23:00

We had the Green party LEADER Caroline Lucas on our doorstep (she's the Green's candidate here in Brighton). DH got very excited and lied to her that he might well vote for her.

oldandgreynow · 05/05/2010 23:11

None here either -safe conservative seat so they just don't bother

Nettiespagetti · 05/05/2010 23:14

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT NOONE HAS KNOCKED ON MY DOOR!! iT IS THEIR DUTY TO CANVASS ME, (oops shouting)get my opinion and try and convince me that their party would fix Britain and make everyone happy again!!

Mind you in saying that i'm afraid i'd have to be quite kurt with the BNP candidqate who is standing in our area!!!!!!

Enjoy x

motherlovebone · 05/05/2010 23:24

saw our tory candidate being barked at by a dog yesterday afternoon
