to be disappointed that we didn't get one single political campaigner knocking on our door?

We had lots of leaflets through, and a letter from the labour party addressed to me by name but not one single person knocked on the door.

Hardly makes for good canvasing does it?

YANBU. We haven't had anyone at the door. We have had 2 leaflets-one general one and one addressed to me-with a wrong spelling of my name. I have been all ready to buttonhole them with questions-probably why they have stayed away! Not least, I wanted to point out that if they want my vote they need to get my name right.

Lizzylou · 05/05/2010 18:24

We haven't either.
Have just emailed some from a site linked on another thread, Theyworkforyou, or something, out of 8 candidates, only 2 answered the survey (English Democrats and an INdependent) and my answers varied wildly from theirs.

I have been waiting for my ignorant, rude and frankly nasty neighbour who is standing as a Tory Councillor to knock on my door, but she hasn't. Prob for the best, may make neighbourhood relations even more awkward

someonelikeyou · 05/05/2010 18:24

The only politician I saw was the Conservative who is part of Cameron's shadow Cabinet and was at the station handing out leaflets himself and talking to people. Everyone appreciated it as he copuld so easily have got a flunky to do it for him

Lizzylou · 05/05/2010 18:25

SanctiMoanyArse, 2000 leaflets from the Green party? Think of the trees!

Caoimhe · 05/05/2010 18:27

I'm in a marginal constituency too - where the hell have they all been?

SanctiMoanyArse · 05/05/2010 18:27

they delivered them for us to take round one week but ds was admitted to hospital

theyv will be recycled

and we decided not to vote green

ReshapeWhileDamp · 05/05/2010 18:28

Very very safe Tory seat here. They obviously take it entirely for granted, because we haven't seen a sausage at the door. I was up for a scrap, too. We've had a few leaflets but nothing like last GE - one from Tories, one from Libs and Labour (which I was surprised to see, I think they've just about given up and died round here ) and one from the blardy BNP. I had a lot of satisfaction in shredding that one.

ChocolateMoose · 05/05/2010 18:28

Me too! In a marginal, around most of the time on maternity leave... not a peep. We used to get them at our old flat (though one did turn out to be a Jehovah's Witness rather than a canvasser)

SanctiMoanyArse · 05/05/2010 18:36

well well

assumed was a labour safe seat; most of area was

cop these stats from recen years:

Conservative 7459 4512 2966
Labour 14389 6395 3198
Lib Dem 7551 5520 3022
Plaid Cymru 1221 1696 1152
Other 1205 1783 5086

WHERE ARE YOU CANDIDATES?!

SanctiMoanyArse · 05/05/2010 18:36

(should emphasise 1st election in area LOL- am not that unaware!)

LyraSilvertongue · 05/05/2010 18:37

I'd love it if my MP came canvassing at my door so I could tell her exactly why I'm not voting for her.
We've been inundated with personalised letters from the Tories and Lib Dems (none from Labour - I don't even know the candidate's name) but no-one has called in person.

minderjinx · 05/05/2010 18:39

We haven't had anyone round this time. I did have the conservative candidate round last time and his parting comment was "I will be depending on your vote" to which I said "Oh I do hope so". He went away looking pleased so I don't think he got it.

Lizzylou · 05/05/2010 18:41

OOh, SanctiMoanyArse, my friend who lives in North wales reckons her only potential candidate is the Plaid one, even though she is not overly enamoured...she explained why but it was a reunion meetup and I had drank a few glasses of wine by then.

This area could go either way so am shocked that noone could be arsed to canvas.

I wouldof course be moaning if our door was being knocked by prospective MPs all the livelong day.

icancancan · 05/05/2010 18:43

Nick Raynsford on the doorstep with the local councillors! He seemed pretty confident but said it was going to be a 'lively' election. Think he quite relished the fight to the finish - I think its going to be pretty close run here.

voteanythingbutBNPplease · 05/05/2010 18:47

I can't decide if YABU or YANBU...
My DH is doing lots of canvassing and campaigning at the mo (but is not a candidate).
Do remember that if each constituency has eg 65000 voters, lets say roughly 35000 houses, then if the candidate visited every one, and spent 2 minutes at each one (not counting travelling time) it would take 48 days (working 24 hours a day) to visit each house. The election was announced (i think) 6 weeks ago so...
Obviously, when they get lackeys to door-knock it would take less time, but IME there aren't that many people willing to take time off work to knock on people's doors all day long (except my DH of course )
But I do agree that lack of leafets is a bit rubbish. Round here, we have had Lib dem/ tory ones at least twice a week, although only 1 labour one (they came 3rd here last time) and thankfully nothing from UKIP or BNP.

LyraSilvertongue · 05/05/2010 18:59

Actually we did have one chap round canvassing for the Tories. I'd just sat down with the boys to watch Avatar and 10 minutes in there's a knock at the door. Very poor timing. I couldn't get rid of him fast enough.

EldonAve · 05/05/2010 19:00

We had a labour canvasser round
Plus saw the labour MP on the high st today and one of the indie candidates on a neighbouring high st at the weekend

TinaSparkles · 05/05/2010 19:06

Labour candidate came around a few weeks back AND invited us to a meeting with the PM, which he emailed about later. DH couldn't make it so I asked if I could bring DMIL but he checked and she couldn't get the necesssary security clearance (too short notice rather than a criminal record - I think).

helyg · 05/05/2010 19:22

We have had both the Plaid Cymru candidate and the Lib Dem candidate on our doorstep. We have also had Plaid Cymru on a seperate occasion without the candidate. When the Plaid candidate came he was accompanied by the AM (Assembly Member), so we got the full big guns treatment.

It is a very tight marginal though.

nappyzoneloveslindor · 05/05/2010 19:50

We have had loads of leaflets mainly from conservatives and one annoying one from conservatives warning us not to vote for some candidates who were independant and once in their party which made me want to vote them all the mroe, anyhows tonight as we came out the school gates our current labour MP was there shoving leaflets at parents and warnign of abolishment of tax credits and the likes if the cons got her seat. She did make the effort to get out their and it does sit favourably with me but still i have 24 hrs .......

grumpalumpa · 05/05/2010 19:53

I was thinking this myself today - we have had ONE leaflet but not one knock at the door, we are not in a huge town and its not a safe seat so would have expected someone but then the labour candidate resides over an hour away!!!!!

Fourleaf · 05/05/2010 19:55

We've had loads! Labour, Lib Dem, Green - all at least once. No Tories though
We've had leaflets from them though, before they scuttled off... we live in a Labour/Lib Dem area, with lots to the left of labour or leaning towards the Greens.

YANBU as I quite wanted the Tories to come so I could get into a debate with them...
They went to my Mum's area as it is posher more Conservative and were really patronising - they told her it was 'her democratic right' not to vote for them. Apparently the candidate looked about 15 so my (die hard socialist) Mum responded by saying 'you look sooooo young, how sweet'.

FakePlasticTrees · 05/05/2010 20:05

I haven't had anyone here either. Lots of leaflets - including one from an independent who listed his GCSE's on his leaflet.

AvengingGerbil · 05/05/2010 20:08

Three way marginal here, and the only person who has canvassed is the Green.

HalfMumHalfBigot · 05/05/2010 20:08

We've had Plaid round. They were very sweet tho descended at 6.30pm whilst the DC's screamed cried in the background.

Bumped into a Labour candidate (from neighbouring area) in Waitrose cafe whilst bf DD. He was lovely.
