to go back to a double buggy?

DS1 will be 4 in August, DS2 (slight mobility problems) was 2 in March.

We havent had a double since DS1 was 2.5. But we have relied heavily on the car, and rarely walked. If we have done any walking they take it in turns to sit in the single buggy we have, but it can be a nightmare as neither can/want to walk up steep hills (and we live right at the top of one!)

I have been thinking of getting a 2nd hand Phil and Teds, just for a few months (DS1 starts school in September) Town Centre is a 3.5mile round trip, so would mean we could stop using the car so much (currently £25 a week petrol, would love to take this right down to £10 a week and maybe even swap my insurance from fully comp to 3rd party fire and theft) Their dads house is a 6m round trip, and the nearest bus stop on a Sunday is a mile away so we have to rely on the car at the moment, but this could mean we could walk/use the bus.

Am I really silly to get a double when DS1 is nearly 4? I thought of the Phil and Teds as they can hop in and out of it, and it steers like a single whether there's one or two kids in there.

I guess it depends on how much of a hurry you'll be in. I think it's good for kids to walk - but if you are always in a hurry and have to keep nagging them, that's not good!!

The 4yo can walk up the hill - he just doesn't want to walk up the hill.... sometimes we have to do things that we don't want to - that's life.

Phil & Ted's are great, but TBH, I wouldn't want to be pushing one uphill with a 2yo and 4yo in it - they're heavy.

But unreasonable - no - do whatever works for you and sod anyone else!!

I have a p&t and certainly wouldn't want to push it with a 4 year old in!!

How about a buggy board? I have one for my big buggy (not an umbrella type, IYSWIM) and still occasionally use it. 4-yo DD2 was ill last week and I had to go collect DD1 from school. It was possible to have both 4yo and 22 month old on the buggy that way (though we did end up with the 4-yo in the buggy and the 22-month old on the buggy board )

yanbu. My ds is 3.5 and dd is 20mo and we still use the P&T when we are out on foot. DS just hops in and out as we go. Lots of walking but when he is pooped he can sit down.

I walk too fast for a toddler (and most adults ) to keep up and have got better things to do than be late / get wet because he is dawdling. We'll keep the p&t for another year or so I expect.

Or maybe you could try a single with a footrest your DS1 can sit on when he is tired. We have a double Nipper at the mo for my 2-yr old twins but DS1 (who is 4) sits on the front if we are going far or he is shattered (trying to discourage this a bit now though). Have been told single Nipper is also ok for child to perch on front.

Maybe take a test run with him walking or scooting and see how much whining there is? Almost 4 DD1 still goes in the P&T on the school run because I can't.take.the.whining. and it's only just over 1/2 mile. P&T has a flat at the moment and she had to scoot today and OMG. Just OMG. It's not worth the aggravation if he doesn't want to walk IMO.

Plus you will have fab shoulders and butt from pushing 70lbs up a hill everyday!
