to think I might be bleeding to death?

OK I probably am BU but man, I'm having the worst period ever. It came 3 days late and now on my second day I am changing my ST every 30-60 mins and am passing some serious clots. I've flooded 3 pairs of trousers today and I'm weirded out by it. I am usually fairly heavy but nothing like this.

Really sorry for the gory details but I am a bit . I don't know what the heck these clots are but they are freaking me out big time and I keep thinking "how can I be bleeding this much and NOT be in danger of dying?"

I once had that and had to go to hosp and get meds, was awful.

differentID · 03/05/2010 22:23

is there any possibility it could be a mc?

Northernlurker · 03/05/2010 22:23

Any chance is not your period but in fact a miscarriage?

I think you need to see how you go over night if you're sure it's your period. That's the lining of the womb coming away not actively bleeding so you won't bleed to death. See your GP tomorrow though and get some help because you shouldn't have to put up with that.

Miscarriage bleeding is another matter so if there is any chance 8it could be that (ie have you had sex in that last 6 weeks?) then you should speak to somebody NOW.

cupcakesandbunting · 03/05/2010 22:24

I did two pregnancy tests on saturday and both were negative so I guess not...

fernie3 · 03/05/2010 22:27

If the bleeding is that heavy and you thought you may be pregnant on saturday I would call out of hours doctor for advice (im sure your fine though).

iheartdusty · 03/05/2010 22:28

have you considered fibroids?

before I had a myomectomy this could have been me.

good luck

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 03/05/2010 22:29

more than 1 pad an hour is hemorraging (sprry spelling) i'd get checked out asap

Northernlurker · 03/05/2010 22:30

Yup - ring the doctor now please.

larks35 · 03/05/2010 22:31

I had a similar period 2 cycles ago. V awful, and if I hadn't known better I would have thought it was a mc. I'm keeping check on my periods now, because there can be underlying probs to these types of periods. If you are usually heavy, have you been to docs about it before? I'm usually normal and will defo. go to docs if I have another like that one.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 03/05/2010 22:35

You still here? x

cupcakesandbunting · 03/05/2010 22:38

Hello, still here Just being a Google hypochondriac. I had considered fibroids tbh as my auntie had them and I remember her saying that her periods were very heavy. Eek

mumbar · 03/05/2010 22:39

FWIW had same thing last period and was 3 days late too.

You know ur bady so if ur concerned I think that poss answers ur question so get it checked.

Hope ur ok.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 03/05/2010 22:41

Please ring out of hours GP/NHS direct 0845 46 47. Bleeding this much isn't normal. I have bad, heavy periods but this is beyond that. I had this happen and was admitted after going to A & E.

cupcakesandbunting · 03/05/2010 22:44

SecretLemonadeDrinker, what was the outcome when you went to hospital?

OP posts:
hellymelly · 03/05/2010 22:53

Friend had this recently,in her case menopause related, but she was taken to A+E in the end and had progesterone injections to stem the bleeding.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 03/05/2010 22:53

Well, it was a slightly different situation - it was 6 weeks after a termination and I ended up having a D & C within hours and being on oxygen and iron. They made it very clear that more than 1 pad an hour is not right at all. Don't put it down to heavy period, it may just be coicidence it's happened when your period is due.

SirBoobAlot · 03/05/2010 22:55

I would call someone - whether its A&E, out of hours GP or NHS direct. That just doesn't sound right to me. Hope you're okay.

rightfootfirst · 03/05/2010 22:59

Call nhs direct asap and speak to someone there. I'd say you were having a mc...having to change a flooded pad every half hour or isn't good. tbh if nhs direct waffle, and this is very unusual for you, then just go straight to A&E.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 03/05/2010 23:00

Another vote for phoning a doctor please!

BrokenBananaTantrum · 03/05/2010 23:05

phone nhs direct on 0845 46 47 i don't think bleeding this heavy is good - sorry you are having a bad time

Just rang NHS Direct and the advisor told me I should speak to a doctor so a lady doctor called me back immediately and said "don't panic, just go see your GP in the morning, you won't bleed to death in one night" What the fuck?!

I have almost lost dd due to bleeding on several occasions. Symptoms were as you'd expect, excessive pallor, blue lips, losing conciousness, but that was obviously very serious, it takes quite a while to get that bad and there is a chance this may not be active bleeding.

One thing I have seen doctors / paramedics do is to check the appearance of the blood vessels present if you pull the lower eyelid down. Very pale is not a good sign but is an early one so don't be alarmed! Agree you should seek medical advice, preferably from a doctor.

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 03/05/2010 23:22

Oh god, we have had this response and she flipping well almost did! From NHS direct and from visiting paramedics. But dd is very small compared to you so remain calm but do see somebody.
