to believe John Higgins is innocent?

Snobear4000 · 03/05/2010 21:14

News Of The World has reported that snooker world champion John Higgins agreed to take money to lose frames in a snooker tournament.

NOTW is famous for stitch-ups and false stories and have been sued for libel many times.

Anyone who has had the displeasure of working in the corrupt, lawless and mafia/gang controlled Kiev will know how easily it is to be intimidated, and how a wealthy snooker player who has been duped into a meeting with what he believes are Russian gangsters would, as we all would, say anything to placate the chaps and then get the hell out of the country.

The News Of The World took full advantage of this environment of fear to stitch up two great ambassadors of the sport, and to ruin their reputations and careers, simply in order to sell a few newspapers.

As I am over 40, I am not on facebook!! But if you are, please support the John Higgins Is Innocent Facebook page at:

His manager seems guilty as sin to have resigned so quickly-especially when graham sort would need his manager moat tonight? (they have the same manager). I hope higgins can prove innocence tho, he would be the biggest mug to have risked it.

outnumbered2to1 · 03/05/2010 22:57

fully believe its a NOTW stich up the bastards!!!

drwhofan · 03/05/2010 23:01

His manager looked really ill at ease on the tv interview he gave. I dunno - hope he's innocent cos I hate the NOTW and he put wishaw on the map!! If not he's a loon.

BrokenBananaTantrum · 03/05/2010 23:01

i've always been a big jh fan and was at this

not sure what to think tbh

outnumbered2to1 · 03/05/2010 23:13

smacks of a NOTW stich up. you can see on their "hidden camera" how uncomfortable he looks. i think its his manager who has set the whole thing up and John just went along with it since its the Ukraine, its full of gangsters and at the heart of it he's just a big daft boy from Wishaw that's made it good playing snooker.....

scurryfunge · 03/05/2010 23:17

mmmm

mothertrucker · 03/05/2010 23:18

Yeah it is a stich up but he bloody went for it the fucker.

ABitBatty · 03/05/2010 23:30

I used to quite fancy John Higgins, I am at this and don't know if it's true or not. I hope it isn't.

Snobear4000 · 04/05/2010 11:29

He didn't go for it. He said what he needed to say in the room, to please the fellows who had duped him into going there, as he believed they were Russian Mafia.

I have been to Kiev, and it's the most frightening place I have ever traveled to. More so than Venezuela, Colombia, Russia or South Wales. Police are totally corrupt. Graft, violence and intimidation are a part of daily life. He would have been bricking it, and would have made an act of saying anything to them to get the "meeting" over and done with, then to get out of that room and straight to the airport and out of that horrible country forever.

Higgins has never been implicated in anything like this. He is a family man and very wealthy. What NOTW have done to him is criminal.

Wait for the libel action.

I am gutted about this.

Have to say, having seen the video, JH didn't look very terrified. He looked relaxed and happy and spent some time trying to work out how to get the money into his account without drawing attention. Not what you'd do if you want to get away as quick as poss I don't think.

I don't know what to think about all this. Have never given a monkeys about corruption/drugging etc in other sports but this has really got to me.

lorelilee · 04/05/2010 12:17

I really don't know WHAT to think. I'm hoping against hope that it's a stitch up, but have to agree with ImSoNotTelling that he didn't look too terrified on the video. I'm a massive Snooker fan and from Wishaw and was sooooooo proud of him! GUTTED.

First poisoned pies and now THIS!

Snobear4000 · 04/05/2010 20:06

OK, Higgins and Mooney had been in discussions with a FAKE Russian investment company set up by the NOTW, who had spent some time and effort grooming the two for the sting. They thought the meeting they attended was to be for promotional funding for a series of exhibition matches.

The full story is detailed here:

www.sportingintelligence.com/2010/05/03/revealed-the-tal-behind-the-snooker-sting-th at-leaves-higgins-in-the-fight-of-his-life-030501/

And the NOTW's fake company website, which seems to be part of a very elaborate web of lies, appears here:

www.alfa-equity.com

Imagine you've been fooled that badly, and suddenly you think you're up to your neck in Mafia-run nonsense. Again, you'd say anything.

And let's be frank, and ask ourselves, is this journalism? Is this a paper revealing something that has happened or actually creating something from scratch, using public figures like puppets to sell their papers?

Despicable.

I'll wait for the enquiry the snooker doods are doing to finish before saying he's guilty or not. It does look bad though. He was relaxed and didn't think of mentioning it to anybody afterwards.

paisleyleaf · 04/05/2010 21:04

I feel pretty much the same way as ImSoNotTelling.
And like Tiggy says about him not thinking to mention anything afterwards.

ImSoNotTelling · 05/05/2010 08:35

Snobear I do see what you mean about dangling a large pile of cash in front of a fallible human and then jumping out and shouting "gotcha" when they pick it up.

I think the thing is snooker players have always seemed to be a bit more honest than the rest of them (don't know why).

And snooker is a game which it is so easy to manipulate - you have to trust that they are doing their best and that for me has never been in question before, it never even occured to me.

i finally understand now when these scandals happen and people say the game is "tarnished". That element of doubt enters your brain.

I will wait for the inquiry too and am really hoping that they find it's all OK. But I don't see how that can happen really, the damage is done.

On an upside does anyone know if this will be televised? I'm guessing it will. Sounds exciting

LoveBeingAMummy · 05/05/2010 08:44

"Higgins at one point even jokingly asked if there were hidden cameras in the plush Kiev hotel suite" His manager evens joes yes its there look into it, obviously very scared aren't they

noddyholder · 05/05/2010 08:46

Have you watched the video? Guilty as sin and as for his side kick

Snobear4000 · 08/05/2010 10:29

People have been asking my why would NOTW go for Higgins, and not a less regarded, "dodgier" type of fellow in order to make the story more believable. Well, there now appears more to their motives than there was at first.

Barry Hearn is the Chairman of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association, which has a deal with Sky to broadcast the tournaments

Higgins and manager Pat Mooney had been setting up a rival competition, to be broadcast on Eurosport.

James Murdoch is chairman of Sky and is in bed with Hearn.

Murdoch also runs, and in fact, works out of the same building as NOTW, as Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation owns both Sky and NOTW, and as we know, The Sun and The Times, which dutifully reported all this fiction as fact.

Higgins and Mooney had to be destroyed so that Murdoch and Hearn had a monopoly on broadcasting snooker.

And although this stinks worse than any stitch-up in the tabloid media in recent times, the so-called free press of the UK have simply repeated the news from NOTW and the AP wire that this is a "match-fixing scandal". There is no scandal. No matches were fixed. Nothing happened!

In all other match-fixing scandals where there has been a shred of evidence, Scotland Yard has been brought in, a proper police investigation has ensued, and players have been arrested and questioned.

Higgins has not been questioned by police, as there are no questions to answer!

It is telling that the only investigation is being held by a FORMER police officer, under the instruction of Hearn.

Please people, don't be so gullible as to believe this deliberate destruction of a glittering career. It is interesting that a few very wealthy men stand to gain a lot of money from all of this.
