or perhaps in the cellar?

I won't. But what to do?

She is lovely and told me on the phone that she had bought something for the garden. I had pointed out flags like these and mentioned that they looked quite cool.

She said that she found something really fantastic and was going to send me some.

She has sent 8 wooden windmill things. here. Slightly different and really not my style.

What do I do? I would not mind one of them, perhaps even two. But 8?

Dammit. Linked to the wrong thing.

these are the ones that DH liked

Are you hosting the Olympics in your garden?!

Seriously though if you really hate the windmills, wouldn't she prefer it if you asked for the receipt and changed them?

MmeLindt · 03/05/2010 10:44

Sorry, should have mentioned. We live in Switzerland, she lives in Germany.

I guess I could put them in, take some photos then hide them, only to bring them out when she visits.

But the DC would surely let the cat out of the bag.

Yes those windmill things are hopelessly twee.
How would she react to being asked for the receipt?

MmeLindt · 03/05/2010 10:45

lol, at the Olympics. I think DH fancied one flag, not the whole lot.

Although he did talk about hissing the Bavarian flag.

Not worth sending back to Germany. Postage would be more expensive than the windmills.

I could do what she does when she gets a gift, and give them to other people.

i love those flags!

biddysmama · 03/05/2010 11:11

awww, my dd would love those windmills

RunawayWife · 03/05/2010 11:23

You need to foid the poster who had a frog thing brought for her the other week, team up and open your garden as a gnome reserve type of thing they have in Devon

kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/05/2010 11:23

Those are hideous. Give them to the broki.

MmeLindt · 03/05/2010 11:36

broki? Kreecher, are you speaking SchweizerDeutsch to me?

I know my DC will love them, so have to decide what to do with them before they come home.

gtamom · 03/05/2010 12:05

Could you make a little spot just for them, plants a little border or something around it, and set a small table and chairs there, and it could be your dd's spot?
Or, just put up one or two and raotae them, you can say your garden is a bit small for all at once?
Besides, putting them all is a risk, afterall SOMEONE may STEAL THEM DURING THE NIGHT?

MmeLindt · 03/05/2010 12:06

The garden is huge, so that won't work. I could make a wee spot for them, right at the front of the house and hope that someone steals them, I guess.

Or plant massive hostas over the top of them.

ZacharyQuack · 03/05/2010 12:23

Do what gtamom said - create a children's fantasy garden.

greenasgrass · 03/05/2010 12:26

Oi! I live in Devon. We don't have a gnome reserve in our garden

ChippingIn · 03/05/2010 12:32

If your garden is huge I would just find somewhere obscured by large trees/plants to put them where the kids can enjoy them and you can't see them!!! Buy a gnome or two as well, a few fairies, butterflies - let the kids enjoy the secret, hidden garden! While they are young enough to be tasteless carefree!!

cece · 03/05/2010 12:53

Put them in garden. One bad winter will probably break a few and by the time they are weakened by sme summer sun. In two years or so problem solved!

jurisfictionoperative · 03/05/2010 13:20

Love the flags, hate the wooden thingys. how old are your children? is there any chance they will wreck them? I would let them!

RunawayWife · 03/05/2010 13:21

Greenasgrass you are missing out on a money making dream, few gnomes, a wishing well, little felt hats for visitors to put on and walk around in.....

Get sewing woman and get a gnome of 200

RunawayWife · 03/05/2010 13:21

Oh oh oh and if you are in for making big bucks knit some dolls, tie them on to sheep and race the sheep!!!!

The idea of letting the DC weather ruin them, but I will still have to look at them until then.

Am hiring a pressure water tomorrow to clean the patio.

Perhaps I could have a tragic accident.
