SELFISH PARENTS

What the hell are parents thinking bringing toddlers/under fives to the cinema to see films meant for adults??? I am disgusted at seeing these poor children dragged along with their selfish parents to see films that are so obviously not meant for their age group. Not to mention the racket they make! Any wonder kids are messed up these days.

I've never seen anything like that. I am surprised the cinemas let them in. Considering it's against the law and all.

GypsyMoth · 03/05/2010 00:27

Which film was this?

BarbieLovesKen · 03/05/2010 00:31

Really? why not just wait for the dvd? what happened anyway?

BritFish · 03/05/2010 00:31

which film? then we can judge to our hearts content

shellio · 03/05/2010 00:32

The film was ironman 2 rated 12a. There were at least five kids under the age of five in the cinema watching the film!

I wouldn't take a toddler to see IronMan 2 but I don't believe it's against the law.

The 12A rating is only used for films shown in cinemas. It is given to films that are best suited to those aged 12 or older. However, people younger than 12 may see a 12A so long as they are accompanied by an adult! In such circumstances, responsibility for allowing a child under 12 to view lies with the accompanying adult.

TheCrackFox · 03/05/2010 00:34

You should have asked for a refund from the manager.

lilmissmummy · 03/05/2010 00:38

I was shocked by that too we took our dc aged 9 and 5 to see How to Train a Dragon and there were people queuing to see IronMan 2 with very young children! I was very .

shellio · 03/05/2010 00:39

I just thought that it was too violent for kids and therefore wondered why anyone would subject their children to this??

barbielovesken you have totally missed the point! And I wanted to see the film in the cinema not dvd.

later showing is the answer

shellio · 03/05/2010 01:49

I want to go to cinema when i feel like it! I felt sorry for the crying/distressed kids whose parents could not give a damn about them. But each to their own. It was certainly an eye opener for me. Some people obviously dont give a damn about their children.

Isn't Ironman a kids film? The toyshop is full of linked merchandise, its clear they expect small ish children to see it. Its not like you went to an actual adults film is it?
What time was the showing?

I wouldnt take my children to the cinema to see iron man as I would be too worried about people judging tbh even though they always behave well there. I am confident however that my 5 year old would not have a problem with the film and wouldnt worry about her seeing it at home. Depends on the child I suppose?

2shoes · 03/05/2010 12:16

yanbu
I wish they would make the rules stronger.
I used to hate going to see HP with tiny tots in the audience.

jeananddolly · 03/05/2010 12:30

YABU:

  1. Iron Man 2 is not a film meant for adults - it is based on a comic book FFS. Antichrist is a film meant for adults. Frost Vs Nixon is a film meant for adults.
  1. The film is rated 12a - this means under-12s can see it - it's down to the parents' discretion. BBFC decisions involve dozens of people's input including child psychologists, criminologists etc and are based on evidence. It is up to parents to look at the parental advice on the poster and in the cinema lobby and make a decision based on their knowledge of their individual child. Some of them make the wrong decision but I think everyone would be up in arms if the world worked otherwise.
  1. The film is rated 12a - you can choose to see a mid-week late night screening if you want to avoid children.

I remember having the same grumpiness when pre-kids I went to an afternoon screening of Dodgeball and it was full of kids. That said, they all behaved impeccably when the lights went down. That also said, I vowed there and then to never see a film less than a 15 certificate.

lilmissmummy · 03/05/2010 13:23

Surely you would see a film first though to ensure it is suitable for your child? My DS (9) desperately wanted to see Avatar in the cinema however we went to see it first and decided that it was not suitable for him to watch and therefore did not take him to see it.

We may let him watch it on video at some point when we feel he is ready!

It's not like it's Saw V or anything. is it? And in no way translates to not giving a shit about your kids.

Maybe it depends on the children I know that both of mine would have nightmares if they saw anything like that... maybe I am overprotective!

mixedraceparents · 03/05/2010 14:24

My 4 year old loves Iron Man he plays with his Iron Man toys, watches the Cartoon and loves everything Marvel. we put his Iron Man costume on and his Iron Man hat etc and went to the cinema and he STAYED QUIET all the way through and loved it.

I would say Tom and Jerry is more violent than Iron Man, and try watching Johnny Test, ben 10 or ... well you get my point.

It's up to the maturity of the individual child. We have been coun ting down the days to this film as he loves it so much.

I think it was quite unselfish of me to go to a film I didn't particularly want to see and spend £20 to make my little one happy but whatever ......
