Just because they had some fantasy about DW and his assistant doesn't mean they should force it on everyone else. I watched tonight with my 10 year old and the final scenes made me really cringe.

Curiouser and curiouser ...

Bleatblurt · 04/05/2010 16:58

When Amy is 7 he says her name is like something out of a fairy tale and then at the end of the latest episode River Song says something about can't remember it's name and the Dr says it can't be, it's a fairy tale.

Maybe a link there?

Aitch · 04/05/2010 17:00

he says 'you know what the crack is'... hmm.
vg spot on the clothes. i thought that they'd slowed the film down again, like they did in the first ep, and it was noticeably different. just couldn't put my finger on why.

Aitch · 04/05/2010 17:02

the pandorica or whatever it is, yes.

MadameOvary · 04/05/2010 17:14

No time to read whole thread but pretty sure that there's a reason for Amy Pond trying to jump the Doctor, ie she's possessed. It's practically a sci-fi/fantasy cliche in order to sex up the story whilst in the guise of being "part of the plot"...
She does end up preggers as well...

Bleatblurt · 04/05/2010 17:15

Oi, I didn't want to know that.

NorkilyChallenged · 04/05/2010 17:45

Butterball - the Pandoracle or Pandorica (the Prisoner Zero thing at the end of the first ep also mentioned it, in connection with the "Dr in the Tardis" not knowing what caused the crack, the Pandoracle/-orica would open and silence would fall)

SleepingLion · 04/05/2010 21:25

Was just telling DH about this thread and sniggering about the refs to 'Amy's crack' and he said 'Maybe the Doctor ought to fill it.'

Should I or ?

WidowWadman · 04/05/2010 22:04

Not sure about Amy Pond being possessed, I thought it was pretty much in character.

WingedVictory · 04/05/2010 22:14

Oooh, have seen it now. The angels were creepier than I was led to believe from the disparaging comments here!

Amy's jumping the Doctor seems fairly in character, I quite agree, WidowWadman. A bit of fun!

YABU!!

i am loving the new writers style. way way way better than the old stuff!

i think i love stephen moffat though since he wrote Blink...

i wanted sally sparrow to be his new assistant.

RustyBear · 04/05/2010 22:49

Actually, [pedant alert] none of the writers we've seen yet are new - in fact only two episodes will be by writers new to Who - Simon Nye & Richard Curtis.

ThatVikRinA22 · 04/05/2010 22:54

stephen moffat didnt write very many of the old ones though - he did seem to write the better thought out plots i thought.

i think we needed a change. im loving the new cast and crew.

RustyBear · 04/05/2010 23:07

Actually, Moffat wrote more episodes during the CE/DT era than anyone except RTD.
He is a long way behind RTD though

Maleeka · 05/05/2010 00:46

I also wanted sally sparrow to be the new assistant VicarInaTuTu

Well since i did watch this episode while looking up from my laptop from time to time, i guess i'll have to watch it again to see this jacket thing!

Have to watch it during the day of course cos otherwise i'll be scared of the angels the kids will be at home bothering me

CoinOperatedGirl · 05/05/2010 02:18

I'm just not sure about the whole new series tbh. Although I will watch until the finale, not like there is much else on or I have a life. I'm not sure I like Moffat's vision of Dr who as fairytale. Plus his characterisation of women to me is off, the quintessential Moffat story is girl in the fireplace.

To me, Madame Du Pompador is a right cowbag. Firstly the Dr is supposed to be "in love" with rose at this point, then the Dr visits her as a small child but basically falls in love/shags her 5 minutes later (ick). She is also a right bitch later when Rose is trying to be kind to her. It ook me about 3 goes to even watch this episode all the way through tbh, but I realise this is just my opinion.

LLKH · 06/05/2010 09:48

I was a bit [hmmm] about Amy snogging the Doctor, but MS is growing on me.

Also, had a thought about the Pandorica or whatever it is. Anyone remember the myth about Pandora and her box? Might it have something to do with that or referencing that? Her curiosity got the better of her and no one can say that the Doctor can't sometimes be overly inquisitive.
