to not give to collection

hi i just wondered what peoples opinions were.

Someone at my work is leaving and as usual we are doing a collection for him. This person has made my job hell for the past 4 months by been awkward and he says its because i have something against him which is not true.

I always give a couple of quid towards peoples collections but i dont want to give anything towards his leaving fund. AIBU?

YANBU Presumably the collection is semi secret in that no one would know how much or little you contribute into an envelope or something? If it is just don't bother or say you're out of change and will contribute later but just don't bother.

This reminds me of when I had to organise a leaving collection. The envelope went to 8 people, when I got it back it had 7 £5 notes and one 10p in it. I spent the ages trying to figure out who had the grudge!

I wouldn't put anything in. My rule is that if I don't personally know them or like them then I don't contribute.

I once arranged a collection for a colleague who wasn't entirely popular and we got a small amount of cash and quite a few paper clips. We didn't give him the paper clips.

Put 40p in and take change.

NO, YANBU, why should you chip in for an arseholes present (im really going for it 2night lol, been on dps stellas, not been to asda for my wine, lol!!!).
I worked in a hairdressers when i was 16/17, and all the stylists were complete bitches, always bossing me about, treating me like a skivvy, and when ever any of them left, my boss used to say i HAD to chip in for the cows presents, and this used to piss me off! considering i only earned £64pw!
Just say your skint, have to pay for your dc activitys e.t.c.

Hehe - thanks MITM - our boss put extra cash in cos he felt bad that the collection raised so little lol. Don't know why he bothered. Then again it was him that recruited the useless idiot.

I agree with tethersend. By putting a random, small amont in you are making your point without being "the person who didn't contribute".

Hopefully they'll get him a gift card... and then he'll know he's pissed someone off.

YANBU I once had to do a collection at work for someone who was a really nasty piece of work. I told everyone that if they didn't want to give to his collection not to as he never gave to anyone else's! He had the smallest collection ever and it was what he deserved!

If it's only a couple of quid, can't you rise above it and chip in like everyone else? Otherwise it does look like you've got something against him.

YANBU at all. I didn't give to the leaving gift of someone who was vile to me. I wasn't asked to sign the card due to not giving, but if I had I would have put 'aye, go on, bugger off, see if I care'.

Why pay your money, no matter how small an amount on someone you don't like. I don't agree with putting in just because you feel you have to. Put in because you like the person and wish them well. Otherwise don't bother.
