DH has a dd from previous relationship and we also have a ds together - dd is almost 10 yrs and ds is 20 months so quite a big age gap.

At the weekend ds accidentally pinched dd as he was trying to grab a toy off her - she got very upset and was crying (understandably), but we tried to explain that he didn't mean it.

Two hours later when she went home she was still upset and told her mum about it.

So dd's mum texted dh to say that he absolutely did the right thing in smacking our ds's hand, and that he should either do that or pinch him back so he can see how it feels!

So AIBU to be annoyed at this?

I think it's up to me and dh how we wish to punish our child's behaviour .

MmeLindt · 26/04/2010 14:06

ROFL

I had a 20 mth old here this morning. Should I have punished him for emptying out the peg bag? Maybe put a peg on his nose and ears? That'll learn 'im.

Little beast! Coal cellar for him, at once.

pagwatch · 26/04/2010 14:11

If the parents have their wits aboutthem then none of this need happen in the first place.

We simply sellotaped mittens on to our children hands until they reached 13 or 14.
It makes school work more challenging butthat is a good thing as they are so clever they would be bored at school otherwise. DS1 is very able. Passed his first GCSEs using only his buttocks

JackBauer · 26/04/2010 14:21

'only his buttocks'

VinegarTits · 26/04/2010 14:26

howmuchdidyousay · 26/04/2010 17:14

I actually feel very concerned for the DD.To be still crying 2 hours later sounds like the nip was just a catalyst for her to let a lot of unhappiness out.

ThisIsSpatchcocked · 26/04/2010 17:14

Hmmm ok.

howmuchdidyousay · 26/04/2010 17:14
