And probably give you a laugh at my expense......

Its DD's birthday in a few days, a while ago I made her a Build-A-Bear bear as a pressie and its been living in its little box-house on top of my wardrobe ever since....

..... until tonight, when I take it down to wrap it, a take a look inside to check its ok/not dusty and there is a FUCKING HUGE HOUSE SPIDER IN THERE!

I shooed the beast out the front door, but did have a chuckle about what would have happened if I hadn't checked, picture the scene:

"Happy Birthday DD! I got you a HUGE AND HAIRY SPIDER IN A BOX!"

She is far too young to notice, and would probably have eaten the spider, but in another context isn't this the stuff that nightmares are made of!

I hope I've bought a smile to at least one person's face this evening with my eight-legged encounter.

For the record - I screamed like a big girl.....

yuk

and they're called loofahs on mumsnet before you scare anyone half to death

EndangeredSpecies · 24/04/2010 21:17

Interactive learning. Natural history lesson and birthday present all in one. But why in AIBU, are you in self-flagellation mode this eve?

gremlindolphin · 24/04/2010 21:19

lovely story - thank you!

I am trying not to transmit my highly irrational fear of spiders to my dds and the other week found a huge one and calmly started to gently capture it in a container to put out side while saying "its much more scared of you than you are of it, isn't it interesting etc etc" then it made a run towards me and I shrieked, threw the container in the air and ran to the other side of the room!

The dds thought this was so funny and have been teasing me every since!

x

Oops, sorry didn't mean to scare anyone, I did deliberately not put the 's' word in the thread title!

Maybe I should have entitled thread "AIBU to consider giving my DD a huge and hairy 'loofah' for her birthday?"

Me too gremlin, ex-H got me a bug-vac for Christmas (long tube with a vacuum to suck the buggers up and store), I prefer the old glass/cardbourd trick, but if its a particularly large one I have to find thick cardbourd.....

I hate it when they run at you.......

Noooo, you woke my aracnaphobia.... have kept it dormant as the last thing I need is the boys to realise that Mummy is afraid of Splats and start chasing me with them beasties...
[will start checking everything again, as shoes, cups, ...things in general]
Hate them.... with passion!

EveWasFramed · 24/04/2010 21:36

Hilarious!! So needed that...thanks for the chuckle!

jurisfictionoperative · 24/04/2010 22:43

I have found a really good remedy for arachnophobia...
It called whacking the buggers over the head with the encyclodedia britannica.

jurisfictionoperative · 24/04/2010 22:45

Mind you, you do need the cheaper shiny covered edition, if you use the textured leather bound ones, its often quite prise their remains from the patina!

baskingseals · 24/04/2010 23:01

call me - i love spiders - I'll do some spiderbusting

oliviacrumble · 24/04/2010 23:03

Gosh it's a long time since I've seen the word "patina" thrown casually into a sentence...

I'm impressed!

jurisfictionoperative · 24/04/2010 23:14

I aim to please. I tried really hard to not transmit my fear to my kids, but in the end the loofahs beat me. Now all four of us scream like girls and bash them with something! I am sure that I am fated to spend eternity being whacked with a huge book by a giant spider, but really, right now I don't care! I just hate the blighters! I even go so far as to tape dress net over the windows so I can sleep with them open!
