Get such a bad rep?

Seen it a bit on this board of late, not just the thread this morning with the nasty driver of the Red Volvo that hit and run one of our Mumsnetters, but other threads too.

I have recently become a "Volvo driver" in that I recently got one of the new XC60's. But I dont think my driving changed in any way when I acquired it. And when I drive my little Seat Altea at the weekend when DH takes the Volvo somewhere, I dont think I suddenly revert back either.

No smoke without fire though, so what is it exactly that Volvo drivers do so badly?

It's because drivers of large cars are the only people left on the planet we can be rude about before the thought police take that pleasure away from us.

I'm a 4WD driver

shockers · 24/04/2010 13:02

I'm a Volvo driver and have been driving for 25 years. The only accident I've ever been in was when I was hit from behind whilst at a red traffic light.... by a Volvo!

shockers · 24/04/2010 13:05

I use biodiesel made from recycled food oil in mine so they can't get me Alouiseg

benotafraid · 24/04/2010 13:05

It's not the volvo drivers I worry about, it's the middle aged boy racer wannabes in vectras!

SloanyPony · 24/04/2010 13:07

Hehe. That's a good point I've never had an accident.

(touch wood etc)

Me neither, well not in my 4x4 anyway!

violethill · 24/04/2010 13:17

Because traditionally volvos were seen as the car of choice for less confident drivers, often elderly or very cautious or just a bit crap, because if you bash into anything else, you'll probably be ok but the other person/car/object won't be. That was before 4x4s came along and usurped that position!

YANBU

I don't get it either, me and dh love cars and driving and we think Volvos are bloody good cars, much better for a practical car than a blooming people carrier. We did have the C30 on our (very small) list of cars to get next, but I'm fed up of only having four seats now so had to strike it off.

I don't think I've ever had grief from one whilst driving, and believe me I have a long list of other driver's transgressions in my head!

Meglet · 24/04/2010 13:21

I love Volvo drivers, never noticed them driving like idiots.

It's BMW's and Audi's tearing up the motorway I have issues with.

mumoverseas · 24/04/2010 13:28

YANBU, it is either volvo drivers or 4 x 4 drivers who allegedly are bad drivers.
I must be shite, I drive a volvo xc90 4 x 4

An why does it actually matter in a post (ie about an accident/incident) what make the car is?
