to maybe apply for a new job????

Ok, long story short, I took a pay cut in our pay review last year I am currently appealing. I have just noticed that there is a job similar to what I do for another authority (I work in local gov't....dont hate me!) the job isn't that different to what I do now but it is about 11k a year more. However there will be alot more spent in travelling expenses. DH and I have been TTC for a while now and if I were to take this job (if I were to get it) it would mean putting TTC on hold for at least a few months so that I dont lose out on Mat Pay. So am a bit confused, I dont really want to stop TTC now (it already seems to have been going on for ages) but would it be unreasonable to apply for the job, and if I were successful, use it as a bargaining tool with my current employer? I know they wouldnt be able to offer me a salary that high but if we could find some middle ground.........I'd stay. Or is it even unreasonable to apply for a job while I know there is a chance I could become pregnant soon (hopefully)?????

You have absolutely nothing to lose by giving it a go!

If you are successful at ttc before you are offered the job, you don't have to take it. That is what happened to me, I got pg so refused a new job offer and stayed at my old job, as I was eligible for a years mat leave instead of six months.
Go for it, you have nothing to loose and maybe something to gain. Just bear in mind that if you decide to stop trying to ttc that is usually when it works!

"use it as a bargaining tool"

Are you really just looking for an increase in salary? Applying for a job that you don't really want?

Mouseface - I have found this technique to be highly effective!
