It means "laugh out loud", people. Not anything else.

OP posts:

LOL

SusieCarmichael · 22/04/2010 15:40

but yanbu its annoying
there's a great picture someone posted on here but i couldn't save it to my pc maybe they will come and post it again....

pagwatch · 22/04/2010 15:41

I love lol as my DH and DS1 bonded.

DS1 kept putting lol in his texts to DH and DH got all slushy about it. he thought it was lots of love.

DH is the only person in England who does not know what it means.

I wonder, should I tell him?

Poledra · 22/04/2010 15:43

I was trying to work out what else it could mean - Lick One's Lips? Lift One's Leg?

Thanks for the sensible suggestion, Pag

And why didn't you post an amusing thread today to distract me from my work?

SusieCarmichael · 22/04/2010 15:44

pag, my friend thinks it means 'lot of laughs' even though everybody has corrected her she still says 'so i put lot of laughs when he said that' at least she has the right concept i suppose

pagwatch · 22/04/2010 15:46

Sorry Poledra
no strange parking and the dog is shitting just fine..

and LOL ( light on loafers)

pagwatch · 22/04/2010 15:46

Poledra · 22/04/2010 15:48

Light On Loafers! I haven't heard that expression in aaaages!

Leg Over Lady
Limps On Lamely
Leg of Lamb (inspired by the recipe of the week)

pagwatch · 22/04/2010 15:50

living on lager

Poledra · 22/04/2010 15:51

I like that one!
How about leeching off lover?

ShowOfHands · 22/04/2010 15:52

lollers are interminably irritating.

I have friends on fb whose updates read 'just hung the washing out lol' and 'hurt my foot!!!! lol'

lol off you lolling lollopers.

If you lol inappropriately I assume you're faintly mad and cackling to yourself for no apparent reason. Desist.

AbsOfCroissant · 22/04/2010 15:53

YABU
I'm irritated by almost all use of LOL.

Unless you are actually physically laughing out loud, you shouldn't use it.

Poledra · 22/04/2010 15:57

But how does one then signify that one finds another poster witty and humorous? ROFL is as likely to be true as LOL. We need another option.

How about SQW? Smiling Quite Widely. Nah, needs a vowel in the middle. Shall give it some thought during my next meeting.

McDreamy · 22/04/2010 15:58

My friend uses it for "loads of love" I thought for ages she was laughing at me

pagwatch · 22/04/2010 15:58

QBNEA

AmazingBouncingFerret · 22/04/2010 16:01

PMSL gets my goat. I always imagine the poster to be sitting there in a puddle. Yuck.

wukter · 22/04/2010 16:01

SIMA - snorts in mild amusement.

Scrudd · 22/04/2010 16:02

My FIL thinks it means Lots of Love. Hence his text to his colleague that read 'sorry to hear that your grandma died, lol'

Doodleydoo · 22/04/2010 16:02

I was using it for lots of love ages before I knew it was laugh out loud, to me it still makes no sense! Oh well
