hi! so, my kids are lucky enough not to have any severe allergies, but i was reading something earlier about nut allergies in schools, and how some schools ban certain foods if there is a child with severe allergies, and how some children can react by just being in the same ROOM as nuts.

so my question is, what do you do on aeroplanes if you or your child has a nut allergy?

I haven't got an allergic child but have been on flights where they have said there will be no nuts due to a nut allergic person being on board.

You let the airline know in advanced and nuts are banned from flights 4 hours beforehand.

Dh is i THINK classed as a Grade 4.

woah. thats amazing that they do that!
tricky if your flight got cancelled or they forgot or something...
oh and also, what about supermarkets? open cheese/bakery counters etc?

Like others have said if you tell the airline they wont hand out nuts. Some also make an announcement to ask passengers not to eat any nuts during the flight.

Lucky for us DS allergy is not so severe and he can be in the same vicinity as someone eating nuts as long as he doesn't injest them. That should make trips to the pub a bit easier for him when he is older.

I once triggered a reaction by giving him a kiss a few hours after I had eaten nuts though.

DS is actually allergic to all legumes not just nuts. So lentils, beans and peas have to be avoided too.

You inform the airline and they ban nuts, you also get a letter from your GP so you can carry an epi pen.

Britfish supermarkets etc You always carry epi pens and just cross your fingers that it won't happen.

the last three times I have flown they have announced a nut ban because of a person on board with a severe allergy.
