To be sick to death of political threads obviously being strated by lobbyists?

As mumsnet has become higher profile we seem to be swamped by threads obviously started by lobbyists wanting to scare people into voting for their party (mostly labour ATM I think)by badmouthing the others. Perhaps we should coin a phrase for a political troll and start to call them out. Anyone got any good suggestions?

Nope but i would love it if they would stick to politics so i can hide the buggers. Fed up of the election pre christmas. Its really old now.

It's not like somebody subliminally whispering "vote Tory" at me is going to actually make me though is it?

mangoandlime · 18/04/2010 13:18

Puts me right off, if anything. There was one thread I was reading and mentioning no names, I just thought what a loon this person is, they sound a bit unhinged.
Made me definitely decide against the party they were banging on about.

Maybe I missed the thread you're referring to - but is it really a political activist/lobbyist? Just because someone has different political views - doesn't make them a paid-up member of the party, "stupid" or unhinged!

skihorse. Just my take on it. There seemed to be a slight hysteria to a few of the posts I was reading.

mango

I must confess ( as a lifelong labour voter) that I am finding the
"aibu to worry that the tories will roast babies on an open fire and force pensioners into prostitution" really really off putting.

This classist take on everything and the negativity is making me question for the first time ever if I really want to vote for this shit

skihorse · 18/04/2010 14:43

Is it the thought of geriatrics propositioning you for sex you find most off-putting?

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 18/04/2010 14:48

YANBU

I was just about to post my own AIBU saying exactly the same thing!

I would love the politics topic to be full of interesting, well debated threads but instead it seems to be being overtaken by party political rants.

I hate the 'have a go at the other party' method of canvassing and would rather be informed properly by intelligent people confident in their party's policies who can explain them clearly, rather than just say 'vote for us 'cos the other parties are shit'.

HeftyNorks · 18/04/2010 14:50

There are all kinds of political threads being started here and all seem to be saying "vote for us". LibDem/Lab/Cons across the board rather than one main party.

Not trolls but Prolls.

theyoungvisiter · 18/04/2010 14:58

I too have noticed a lot of politics threads started by people who have registered (or namechanged) within the last month. Some of them have barely posted a single thread that ISN'T political.

Don't agree it's mainly labour at all though - I've seen equally as many bigging up the Tories. And I agree with StewieGriffinsmum about one who is particularly annoying.

I don't mind being harangued about politics by regulars - but why would you join a forum just to post inane political scare stories?

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/04/2010 15:01

I am thinking of hiding the Politics topic for now. Which is a shame. As you say, YoungVisiter, I don't mind engaging in a bit of political banter with my fellow mumsnetters, but not with these activists.

plimsolls · 18/04/2010 15:08

My thread was real, I'm not one of them there lobbyists, I promise, even though I'm new!

elastamum · 18/04/2010 16:00

I like prolls - that just about sums it up. what is fascinating is they seem to think we are all stupid enough to believe the guff they write

nah . I am just getting old enough to worry about it as a vision for my future

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 18/04/2010 16:05

I mis-read the OP as 'political threads being strafed' by lobbyists

Tinnitus · 18/04/2010 16:14

Not really got the lyrical ring of "prolls" but maybe "O?Brien's" would be appropriate, (think 1984)

scaryteacher · 18/04/2010 20:24

I started a thread on Politics a while ago suggesting we play spot the Politrolls and got singed (not as bad a sflamed!)
