Friend's 40th. I knew she wanted a fancy dress party, but having received the invitation to day it seems the dress code is; Come as your favourite vegetable
Ridiculous

Haha.
Nope I wouldn't go either.

zippy539 · 17/04/2010 22:08

If it was me I would wear a gorgeous red dress and attach some green paper leaves to a hair-grip on top of my head - voila, a tomato.

Or a gorgeous orange top with some green paper leaves attached to a hairgrip - voila, a carrot.

And so on ...

Can you tell that I LOATHE fancy dress?

Vallhala · 17/04/2010 22:09

Aw, where's your sense of the ridiculous fun?

Better that than a dinner party with endless waffle about house prices and what little Tarquin has for breakfast!

blametheparents · 17/04/2010 22:09

Lol!

I hate fancy dress anyway, but VEGETABLE fancy dress No way!

Say you hate all vegetables and so can't dress as one.

WingedVictory · 17/04/2010 22:10

Bleach your hair and go as a Swede?

mrsruffallo · 17/04/2010 22:10

DH has just told me his favourite veg is asparagus

ShrimpOnTheBarbie · 17/04/2010 22:11

LOL Winged!

LetThereBeRock · 17/04/2010 22:11

YANBU.

I'd sooner go to the dinner party Valhalla mentioned, much as I loathe dinner parties, than a fancy dress party where one is required to dress as a vegetable.

peggotty · 17/04/2010 22:11

I spent a miserable few hours standing around in a Frankie Says Relax tshirt, leggings and crimped hair at a 40th birthday 80's fancy dress a few months ago. Fucking hell I hate fancy dress but if you don't go dressed up people think you're a misery guts (which quite possibly I am).

LetThereBeRock · 17/04/2010 22:12

Vallhala even.

Coldhands · 17/04/2010 22:12

FFS! What is it with crappy fancy dress. I have a few significant birthdays this year and they all want to do fancy dress which means I have to go and spend money on some crap that I will wear for one night, then never again. And each one will be different so its 3 crap outfits I have to waste my money on.

At least they won't be vegetables though! Whose idiotic clever idea was that?

Can you tell that I am so not a fan of fancy dress!

mrsruffallo · 17/04/2010 22:14

I had to google, and I found this
here
DH has refused it but has suggested we simply go dressed in green

OP posts:
Surprise · 17/04/2010 22:15

You could go as Sean Bean. Or Jasper Carrott. Or Cubby Brocolli. ..........

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 17/04/2010 22:19

Dress up in a hot red dress and go as suzie strawberry.

ChippingIn · 17/04/2010 22:20

I loathe & detest fancy dress (I have to admit, much more so since I put on weight and can't go as something cute or sexy!!).

However, having worked in an environment where 'Fancy Dress Parties' happen on a regular basis (wont say as I don't want to out myself!) and buying them for the event is almost impossible - I have learnt to be very creative! LOL It's a lot of 'that's near enough' rather than looking for the perfect outfit!! Pretty much as Zippy said

retiredgoth2 · 17/04/2010 22:20

I think your husband should definitely wear the chilli costume, MrsR.

After all, the chap in the photo seems to be having a very jolly time...

Unless it's pain of course.

Let's hope he's not gone commando, eh?

peggotty · 17/04/2010 22:21

lol retiredgoth!

galletti · 17/04/2010 22:21

I love Zippy's and Belle's ideas

dustycups · 17/04/2010 22:23

bet you the only one who got vegtable wrote on your invite cos they no you hate fancy dress

your get there and be giant sweetcorn in amongst 30 rock stars!!!

mollymawk · 17/04/2010 22:24

Well, I clicked on the chilli link and the costume is now out of stock. So best not to be a chilli as probably half the other guests will be dressed as one.

retiredgoth2 · 17/04/2010 22:27

I'd quite fancy going as a stick of celery.

..sadly, I am rather closer to a butternut squash in shape.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 17/04/2010 22:47

Can you go as a bloody mary? Lots of tomato juice in one of these

sunnydelight · 18/04/2010 02:43

Fancy dress for anyone over the age of ten is WRONG

Granny23 · 18/04/2010 03:03

Just go in whatever you would like to wear + a string of green beads = peas on a dish!
