to be concerned that DS's feet have now not grown in 22 weeks? (He's 3)

Know it's not really an AIBU but couldn't find anywhere else to put it?

So, as it says in the title, he is just 3 and I have had his feet measured 12 weeks after last fitting, then 6 later, then 4 after that. No change!

I am concerned. Am I being a mentalist?

Maybe he had a growth spurt just before you had him measured 22 weeks ago.

What size does he take?

My dd1 is about to turn 4 and has small feet. They don't seem to grow for ages and then go up a full size. She is a size 7 now.

GoldenSnitch · 15/04/2010 08:25

My DS does this. I had the shoes checked every 4 to 6 weeks over the winter but no change for about 4 months...then went up a whole size all of a sudden.

He's done it before too. Guessing he'll do it again too.

My brother used to grow in bursts like this too so I think it's normal

Stripycat23 · 15/04/2010 08:26

Wouldn't worry, my DH roared up the shoe sizes when a baby and slowed down when he was around 3 years. Just as well cos they cost a fortune!

I found it a bit of a shock too as I was so used to buying shoes frequently.

FickleFairy · 15/04/2010 08:26

He is 7.5 now. Both times before that his feet had increased by a whole size twice in a row so that would make sense.

Same here, barely half a size in over six months . 4yr old ds, has always been small, still wears 2-3yr t-shirts too!

I think its normal, plus when getting shoes mesured in winter, maybe the socs were thicker, which adds to the size a bit. we have that frequently with our 3y old who stalls for 4 months and then needs new shoes every month for the next 4...

TigerFeet · 15/04/2010 08:30

dd1 is like this

her feet seem to grw in spurts a couple of times a year

her shoes last aaaages, saves me a fortune

she has just tried on last year's sandals which still fit

she's a bit older at 5.9 but was like this as a toddler too

MmeLindt · 15/04/2010 08:30

It is normal.

My DS used to need no shoes all the time, then a gap of a couple of months then seemingly overnight his shoes would be too small.

norksinmywaistband · 15/04/2010 08:31

DD hasn't grown even a half size in 18 months - makes it cheap on shoes, and I hadn't even thought to worry about it.
She is 5 BTW and a size 8.5

Marne · 15/04/2010 08:34

Dd1 (6) has only gone up one size in 2 years , she really wants those horrid shoes with dolls in for school but her feet are not big enough (they start in a size 10).

seeker · 15/04/2010 08:34

Oh Lord - my ds's feet haven't grown for nealy a year - he's 9 and still a size 1.5! It hadn't crossed my mind to worry about it - thank you very much, FickleFairy! I'll have a look for one of my best paranoias to pass on to you in return!

ShadeofViolet · 15/04/2010 08:35

My DS2 is 3.1 and takes a size 5, his feet dont seem to grow at all, he has the diddiest feet.

I hnestly wouldnt worry

pjmama · 15/04/2010 09:00

My DS is 3.6 and still got room in the trainers I bought for him at the beginning of last September! I wouldn't worry.

bellissima · 15/04/2010 09:32

My DDs' feet also grow in fits and starts - they will have same shoe size for ages and then 'jump' in size - generally groan shortly before the end of the school year, just as I'm thinking I'll get away with no new school shoes until September.

FickleFairy · 15/04/2010 09:35

Sorry Seeker

Thanks everyone, feel much better now

My DS is 2 and his feet seem to not grow for a while then suddenly jump up a size. He has been 7.5 since before Christmas. Health visitor was not concerned about it, so presumably it is normal.

Guadalupe · 15/04/2010 09:37

I had ds2 feet measured last month and he had not grown at all since October. They said no point in getting new shoes atm as he will probably grow quickly soon.

Ewe · 15/04/2010 09:42

My DD is 2 and hasn't gone up a shoe size since last September, I am desp for her to be a four so I can actually get some proper shoes but she is just a slow grower I guess!

IMoveTheStars · 15/04/2010 09:48

Ds is the same, feet haven't grown since I bought his winter shoes in September! Saving me £££ in new shoes
Hasn't grown in height since his 2nd Birthday in November either - expecting a massive growth spurt very soon.

Did it last year too, went the whole winter and then went up a whole size in a week!!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 15/04/2010 10:04

DD's feet didn't grow a milimetre for about 14 months. I was concerned so took her every week to have her feet measured. (she is an only child . This came back to bit me on the arse as she went up two sizes in three months and hadn't realised that her feet were cramped because it had happened incrmentally.

deaddei · 15/04/2010 13:27

Be grateful. Wait till they're 13, size 7 and going through 3 pairs of school shoes a year @ £40 a pair, plus boots, converses, trainers........

Meglet · 15/04/2010 13:41

My 3.5yo DS's feet haven't grown since his last shoes at the start of december. Neither have 19mo DD's feet.

I marched them off to the shoe shop a couple of weeks ago expecting to shell out £60 on 2 new pairs and they measured them and said to give it another month.

So now I regret not polishing them as they are looking a bit grubby . I assumed they'd grow out of shoes before they looked worn out.

MinkyBorage · 15/04/2010 13:42

my dds feet never grow over winter, I buy the same sized summer shoes for them in April as I bought for them in September.

TheLadyEvenstar · 15/04/2010 13:50

ok who wants to swap??

DS1 and DS2 both skipped 2 shoe sizes in 6 weeks.

8 weeks ago DS1 was a size 5 in shoes and DS2 was a size 8 now DS1 is in a mans 7 he is 11 and DS2 is in a size 10 1/2- he is 2yrs old.
