oh shes not a troll, my mistake

clearly just a twat then

Niftyblue · 13/04/2010 13:48

My ds would climb over his cot at 17 months
we had stairgates on his room and the stairs
We lived with our hearts in our mouths

I am off to collect them from school

DebiNewberry · 13/04/2010 13:49

Sassy - YANBU

runnybottom · 13/04/2010 13:49

MY ds1 could (and did) climb out of his cot before 17 months.

skidoodly · 13/04/2010 13:50

Baby proofing doesn't obviate the need to supervise a toddler, it just reduces some of the risks.

Do people really think that?

"Oh I've put some completely pointless fake plastic plugs in the sockets, now nothing could possibly go wrong"

Fliight · 13/04/2010 13:52

what a horrible thread. You nasty lot.

OP - I think it sounds as though you took on too much and couldn't manage it. Sleep deprivation is very harsh. Sorry you had such a bad night, I hope your friends understand...

fwiw I hate the word Twat, and I co sleep with my toddler, so theoretically he can do what he wants during the night and frequently does.

mrsmindcontrol · 13/04/2010 13:52

I don't think OP's attitude to sleeping in day whilst 'supervising' young children is too unusual. I have several friends who do the same.
In fact, one friend was woken from her particularly deep daytime sleep to find the police at her door with her 3yr old son trailing behind on his trike in just his pants having escaped the house and been nabbed trying to cross a busy road to the park. How SS were not involved in that situation I will never know.

My view is that when you have kids, you give up the right to daytime sleeps unless you know with 100% certainty that they cannot harm themselves or escape (and how many of us can say that) REGARDLESS of how sh*te your previous night's sleep was. End of.

maduggar · 13/04/2010 13:53

@ skidoodly!

BattyKoda · 13/04/2010 13:54

Ingrid - Not sure if that was aimed at me??

Eve4Walle · 13/04/2010 13:54

Well, I thank my lucky stars that DS doesn't climb out, I am dreading the day he has to go into a bed.

baluchi · 13/04/2010 13:57

Dear mummysgoingmad

I can confirm that you are indeed a twat of the highest order.

Hope that helps.

Regards

baluchi

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 13/04/2010 13:57

I'm more sympathetic to the OP than most of you. I'm just jealous that her toddler (the same age as mine) doesn't spend the entire 30 minutes of her nap trying to climb on top of her, while pointing out how interesting the fish are and that there is a teddy, a teddy, a teddy, and also that he would now like 'tottle tottle TOTTLE' because he is a bit peckish and also he wants to climb on this thing but it is too HIGH and she should WAKE UP and help him also what happens if he gets this wooden pullalong toy and hits you on the head with it?

BattyKoda · 13/04/2010 13:58

I think if you are planning a nap, it needs to planned so it isn't leaving a toddler unsupervised with the whole house accessible. Massivley irresponsible IMO.

SueSylvester · 13/04/2010 14:00

There are plenty of superior twats on this thread aren't there?
Whats the betting that at least one poster has a toddler putting the remote in the toilet or eating dog food while they sit on here telling other people whats wrong with their parenting?

EndangeredSpecies · 13/04/2010 14:01

Surely this thread should be put out of its misery?

Eve4Walle · 13/04/2010 14:02

@ Sue.

My DD is in the lounge watching that well known role model Hannah Montana on the tv.

DS is actually upstairs in his COT with the baby monitor on.

Ha ha.

Fliight · 13/04/2010 14:04

LOL at Tortoise

and don't forget biting the end of your nose

and taking off the nappy

and drawing on you.

Francagoestohollywood · 13/04/2010 14:05

I agree with SueS.

IngridFletcher · 13/04/2010 14:06

Battykoda - not particularly.

Iklboo · 13/04/2010 14:06

It's going to be difficult judging the Practically Perfect Parent award this year......

cheesesarnie · 13/04/2010 14:07

is medication from gp?if so it might need to be changed for something less strong.

i feel sorry for abuse op is getting.are you all perfect all of the time?

BattyKoda · 13/04/2010 14:19

Cheesesarnie - she did ask if she was being a twat...in AIBU.

Ingrid - was it just a coincidence or did you see my thread?

Notalone · 13/04/2010 14:22

FFS - why the witch hunt? Has no-one on here ever made a MISTAKE? She has already said she is on heavy duty medication and it was a one off. Cut her some slack. I have seen threads on here where people have made much worse mistakes where there DC's have actually got out of the house / had an accident / got lost etc and there has never been this level of vitriol. Some of you should be ashamed

OP - some of us on here are actually quite nice. I hope this hasn't put you off

StrawberriesAndCherries · 13/04/2010 14:25

We all make mistakes, am sure your friend will realise that. As for sleeping with a toddler around - I confess I have done it when absolutely shattered. A 20 minute nap I find is better than forcing yourself to keep awake and being ratty with them.

mummysgoingmad · 13/04/2010 14:26

thanks notalone and suesylvester no it hasn't put me off, i wasn't expecting the level of flaming though, especially when i have seen other op's who go for a nap through the day, its just not my day is it?!
