to think clearing up after dinner is more than just moving plates from the dining room to the kitchen?

Lovely to go into the kitchen this morning and find DH's idea of clearing up was just moving the location of the dirty plates, not cleaning them. Even more annoying, the dishwasher was empty, he could have at least popped them in there.

actually, the most annoying thing is after dinner I stood up and started picking up the plates and DH told me to go sit on the sofa and he'd deal with that as I'd cooked.

I honestly think he thought that was helping.

My DH has a theory that if you leave plates on the worktop above the dishwasher for long enough, they will somehow sink through the granite by osmosis and drift into the correct slots in the rack. Either that or the kitchen pixie (aka me) will do it for you.

YADNBU, last night i cooked a lovely meal from sratch, also made HM chocolate mousse for dessert, sprung cleaned half the house and had to look after a sniffly DC all day and do 3 loads of washing, yet after dinner i was the one left clearing and loading the dishwasher, and after a moan, all i got was, ' well i like to let my food go down before i start clearing away ' - it had been 20 bloomin mins!!!!!!!!! argggg!!!!

YANBU but I think I would get on well with your DH I am firmly in the "I'll do it later" camp of housework.

my dp clears the plates and does half the washing up. when he gets bored he fills the bowl with loads of soapy water and just hides the rest under the bubbles.

YADNBU. I am blessed though, dh and dd load the dishwasher immediately after dinner.

I generally cook and expect my DH to clean up afterwards. I do clean as I go so usually it's not so bad - depends what we had for dinner.

If the kitchen is not clean I refuse to cook again until it is. The thought of no supper usually spurs him on to clean. It doesn't happen very often now. But we are both out most of the day so I don't have to look at a dirty kitchen if he hasn't done a good enough job.

I reckon it's all in the expectation - if he realises he is expected to do his bit, and the consequence of not doing it, is no nice supper waiting for him when he gets home the next night, he learns pretty quick. No need to nag, just expect it.
