To think that certain people should be banned from public parks

We have a really lovely park near where we live. It's really big, with lots of grassed areas for picnics etc then an enclosed play area.

DH and I took DS there yesterday for a quick run around before dinner time. I noticed that a group of chavs had set up camp next to the enclosed park whilst their kids ran amok inside. The chav parents were sitting on the grassy bit drinking cider, eating junk food and swearing. Two of their kids started fighting one another and rather than try and intervene, the person who I assume was the father sat in the kids' pushchair screeching at the LOs to stop fighting. They carried on drinking their cider before deciding they were going home to "watch Nanny McPhee on pirate wiv a bag ov chipz" then when the motehr of one of the LOs wanted the child to leave the play area she started shouting "come on will ya pooface" Eugh?

All of the other parents were doing cats bum mouth, not just me. I wanted to tell them to shut up with their common mouths and bad language but too middle class, you see? I'dlove to be able to stand up to these people who make life unpleasant for everyone else...

Anyway, DH were talking about them and I said that people like them shouldn't be allowed in parks. They should have an admissions policy. AIBU?

lololololol

v entertaining thread
bollocks or not

lowenergylightbulb · 11/04/2010 22:13

Or maybe we could all hole up in waitrose and wait for the park-people to surround us, and we could throw croissants at them until they were dead. And if that didn't work we could stake them with organic breadsticks.

I can see a whole movie franchise here... "mumsnetters vs the park-people, this time it's personal"

ElleBing · 11/04/2010 22:14

No, they wouldn't jpg.

They'd be doing their best "thou shalt not judge" face and saying to their DCs "we just live in a colourful society, that's all. Embrace the coarse language for it is that of our forefathers. You'll hear worse at school so you'd better get used to it."

Or something.

ach no some here have argued is ones human rights to swear, fight in playpark.and hell they will deride any condemnation of such spontaneous beautiful free expression

redroof · 11/04/2010 22:17

Most areas issue ASBOs for those that consume alcoholic beverages whilst frequenting open green spaces. However, I can't possibly cast a personal judgement until I can ascertain the brand of cider consumed.
OP- were the 'offenders' swigging cans of Diamond White or K, or perhaps sipping from glasses of Aspall cyder or Magners on ice?
I can relate to your disgust. We've recently had to sequester a gang of K-drinking teenaged girls from the swings in the children's play area. We couldn't possibly enjoy our French cigarettes sitting on the grass, but rather settle for the seating in close proximity to the swings.

ElleBing · 11/04/2010 22:17

lowenergy, your attempt at humour is weak. As weak as your "embrace everyone" ideals. Weak. Lame. Beige beyond belief.

But you are one of my neighbours in society, therefore I embrace you and your terrible blandness. I will not judge you. There might be a reason for why you are so bland. I will not judge. I will smile and applaud everything you post from now on. You have made me see the error of my judgemental ways. Thankyou.

springs to mind

RedBlueRed · 11/04/2010 22:38

"Sorry CainInThePunt. You've lost me."

Precisely, you're not all that but you are chavtastic!

Is this aspiring middleclass?

scottishmummy · 11/04/2010 22:40

jessie got the pack mentality description accurately.

ElleBing · 11/04/2010 22:43

Thankyou SM

Yes, I feel like I'm being accused of oppressing some almost extinct warrior tribe rather than being a bit sniffy about some walking ASBOs.

The "my heritage, my people" thing made me chuckle. Whoever said that sounded like one of the native americans in Dances With Wolves before the English wipe them all out. Bit of a grandiose speech when really, we're just talking about a bunch of sweary thugs.

Elle - you're in the UK - you're a mulitcultural gal - they are your people - if you can go abroad and respect all these other cultures surely you can tolerate the diversity of the cultures in your country. No?

You don't mention that your dcs are traumatised by this so why are you so bothered?

ElleBing · 11/04/2010 22:45

Sorry Cain. Still no idea what you're on about. Are you referring to the typo I made?

OP posts:
lowenergylightbulb · 11/04/2010 22:47

The park-people are seemingly a vulnerable warrior tribe. I expect to see a WWF advert soon trying to raise money for their cider, junk food and fags.

scottishmummy · 11/04/2010 22:47

the my people proclamation made me giggle.i see neds i think have a wash you soapdodgin plooky baw bag

certainly not my people-we have no affinity

ElleBing · 11/04/2010 22:47

Diversity of cultures? Wtf?! Seriously, you're equating bad social skills with some quaint differences in "culture"? Really?

Bad manners has fuck all to do with culture and I can't even believe that you're trying to play that card.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 11/04/2010 22:52

You said a rude word Elle (snigger)

shockers · 11/04/2010 22:52

EllieBing.... I've been annoyed by teenagers in parks over the half term. I've heard loud shouting matches about "shagging" and "taking it up the arse". The kids haven't been able to get on the swings because older ones use them as places to sit and have their sweary convos on.
My niece (age 6) proudly got to the top of a climbing frame only to have a football kicked really hard at her (admittedly the boy was aiming for one of his 6 friends who were also atop the climbing frame).
It all becomes a bit of a pain after a while because playgrounds are supposed to be places for children to let off steam... not oversized teens and adults.

Swearing and drinking on or near a children's playground isn't really acceptable IMO.
Those who object have just as much a right to free speech as anyone else.

Ellie

why the sad face for calling your child cain

Cain is a biblical name .. If I heard a child called this I would assume (rightly or wrongly) he was from a religious family.

I realise we are all different on here and not everyone is the same religion as me and in fact not everyone is religious so others may not make the same assumptions I would

It just seems wrong to me to pull faces at what I see as a biblical name

scottishmummy · 11/04/2010 22:59

jessie your deleted post was quite tame.this is pack mentality, pile in.argeu any point to Nth degree.including swearing, fighting in park is permissible an expression of ones beautiful inner self

giveitago · 11/04/2010 23:00

Well you're playing the 'i'm multicultural and well travelled card' - have you never seen modes of behaviour and communicating that you're not keen on abroad?

Had you called the police would they have 'moved them on'?

Get a grip.

lowenergylightbulb · 11/04/2010 23:01

I don't know anyone here, I'm not in a pack!!

I do like the sound of my own voice though, I have such a lovely one.
