to send the bill for unwanted glasses to my university?

the horrible dissertation has officially made me go blind.

I am not happy.

I not only look like my mother in spectacles but also my grandmother.

The grey hairs pissed me off enormously but glasses???!!!!!!!!!!!

They never told me doing this would age me by 25 sodding years.

And to have been charged £200 for the priviledge of looking like my grandmother

so I am sending the bill straight to the university.

I hate getting glasses too (I have reading glasses that make me look like a crone librarian). Can't imagine the dissertation can be blamed though!

ilovespinach · 10/04/2010 11:37

I feel your pain!! I have recently paid nearly 700 Euros for unwanted glasses that DH tells me makes me look like Olive from Off The Busses

omydarlin · 10/04/2010 11:43

YABU but seriouly have a look in to their skills support section they do have some useful advise on fonts/screen readers/organising dissertations etc - i find ebrary to blame i hardly ever set foot in the library im all virtual

LaurieFairyCake · 10/04/2010 11:58

here - I bought nice ones yesterday for £50.

EccentricaGallumbits · 10/04/2010 12:15

If the sodding university didn't force me into sitting at a sodding computer for 8 months writing a deathly boring and slightly crap dissertation which nobody will ever enjoy or care about i wouldn't be blind.
fuckers.

it is their fault.

Did they force you to take the course

I'm sorry you look like your grandmother than the price of glasses is awful.

EccentricaGallumbits · 10/04/2010 12:27

they told me it was a good idea. they lied. it was perhaps the worst idea i have ever had. in fact i am considering jacking it in and going to work in waitrose.

ok....so those of us who wear glasses are blind and look 25 years older???

shockers · 10/04/2010 13:05

"Glasses make you look more intelligent"

My mother...1980.

strawberrykate · 10/04/2010 13:06

Hmmm the optician said that this caused it...?

TrillianAstra · 10/04/2010 13:14

YABU - you should have picked out nice ones.

BetsyBoop · 10/04/2010 13:54

erm if you are "officially blind" how do you know what you look like in your glasses?

YABVU

LadyLapsang · 10/04/2010 14:39

Maybe you should try and take some breaks from screen work. Know it's not easy when you have a lot on though.

juneybean · 10/04/2010 15:02

£200?! Did you not go to specsavers?

EccentricaGallumbits · 10/04/2010 15:03

break? what's that? my break fromthe horrible dissertation is to pop to MN for 35 seconds each half hour. although admittedly it would probably be better to go and do something else. but if i come out of my cupboard the children get a all needy excited and think i've finished.

OP posts:
EccentricaGallumbits · 10/04/2010 15:04

am not going to specsavers as they are evil and i was doing my bit for a small local business too lazy to register elsewhere

'crone librarian', LittleRed Dragon?

On behalf of all MN librarians, I am Officially Taking Offence.....

EccentricaGallumbits · 10/04/2010 15:07

my mother was a librarian.

OP posts:
JaneS · 10/04/2010 16:20

Sorry Rusty. I mean I tend to peer at my books with an avid/myopic gaze. Peering at things because I haven't got my glasses and carrying books with me wherever I go is not for me a good look, which is not to say that (non-crone) librarians cannot look very chic!

Lulumaam · 10/04/2010 16:24

glasses direct v cheap

vision express also have good range of cheap glasses

i spent a bit more than double that on glasses from there about 18 months ago, but i go 3 pairs of designer glasses , complicated prescription and special coating for that.. they had buy one get one half price or soemthing so i haggled and got 3 pairs for v v good price. and no charge for eyetest

and i look hot in my glasses

pigsinmud · 10/04/2010 16:52

RustyBear - fellow librarian here and taking offence too. My glasses are certainly not crone like.

Lilymaid · 10/04/2010 17:53

Another "crone librarian" here and I have been told that my spectacles are funky. I can muster a disapproving look but that doesn't work when you work in a corporate library.

shockers · 10/04/2010 17:53

My Dad was a children's librarian but he looked more like Buddy Holly than a crone.
