to remind people that there is a wedding 'topic' section?

Title says it all really... please don't think I'm being rude, but it would make sense to keep wedding threads in the wedding topic. What do we think?

OP posts:
Fluffyone · 09/04/2010 13:35

I think life's too short to worry to be honest. As a relative newcomer to MN, I find the number of sections a bit overwhelming, so can understand why some might get overlooked.

Rockbird · 09/04/2010 13:37

I was going to say the same about the religion topic. There have been some very upsetting posts here recently and it would be better if they all went in the religion threads that I can then hide.

ChippingIn · 09/04/2010 13:38

I don't know what 'we' think - but I think that people post on the AIBU board to get a range of opinions - if you post on the wedding board you'll get a lot of bridezillas replying

There is a board for pretty much everything posted on AIBU - if everyone stuck to all the topics it would be very dull in AIBU.

heartonsleeve · 09/04/2010 13:41

Yes ChippingIn - that's a good point. Guess I'll just have to hide them instead then!

OP posts:
ChippingIn · 09/04/2010 13:42

Honestly, how boring would AIBU be if we took out all of the...

  • Wedding threads
  • Religious threads
  • Relationship threads
  • School threads
  • SAH/WOH threads
  • Breastfeeding threads
  • Bottle feeding threads
  • Car seat/Buggy threads
  • Weaning threads
- etc etc etc
ElleBing · 09/04/2010 13:44

Erm, I kind of thought that AIBU encompassed any subject on which a poster wanted a response of YANBU/YABU? What topics may we post on in AIBU then please OP?

ChippingIn · 09/04/2010 13:46

heartonsleeve - x post

I understand there are threads that 'seem' to be in the wrong place and it can be upsetting. There are a few on AIBU at the moment that are upsetting me due to personal circumstances, but that's the price you pay for 'hanging out' on AIBU. If I am feeling too upset about things to deal with seeing them, I go onto the Baby Names board and try not to post 'WTF are you thinking???' too much!!

Wanderingsheep · 09/04/2010 13:47

I keep thinking that. I have seen loads of Wedding threads recently and wondered why none of them were ever in the wedding topic. In fact in one of the threads a poster said "there are so many threads about Weddings that MN should have a Wedding topic!" leading me to think, am I incorrect in thinking that there is one? But no there is one, just people don't use it!

mangoandlime · 09/04/2010 13:49

Listening to someone go on about their wedding is akin to listening to someone telling about the dream they had last night.

So, yanbu!

MorrisZapp · 09/04/2010 13:50

Don't ever go on baby names.

Just don't.

ChippingIn · 09/04/2010 14:01

MZ - I do, when AIBU & CHAT have nothing new on them - but it's soooo hard not to put 'WTF are you thinking???' on most of them that I don't stay long... is there just a certain type of person who posts on there or are all of those names really making a comeback/in at the moment?

Mangoandlime - each to their own, but it's simple enough not to click on the thread isn't it

Numberfour · 09/04/2010 14:02

the "what do WE think" is very unreasonable as is your suggestion.

MorrisZapp · 09/04/2010 14:04

I got into a fight on baby names and I can never go back.

I have learned from it though. Never, ever, ever say one word that may possibly be construed as criticism of a child's name.

Great vengeance will strike upon thee!

maduggar · 09/04/2010 14:06

the wedding section is pretty dead though!

heartonsleeve · 09/04/2010 14:06

Ok, so sorry about the 'what do we think' - I just couldn't think of another way of saying it...thoughts? opinions? Maybe I should have just not asked.

And I wasn't just refering to them being in AIBU, but in chat also.

But I admit defeat! I'll just ignore them and sigh inwardly...

OP posts:
Numberfour · 09/04/2010 14:08

you are a very gracious "loser", heartonsleeve! good for you

MorrisZapp · 09/04/2010 14:08

OP, I think the problem is that when you post stuff on specialist threads you often don't get many replies. AIBU is usually quite busy so people will answer your post.

Also, I think people like the idea of being told they are not BU. Unfortunately, they almost always are but bless them eh.

mumblechum · 09/04/2010 14:12

Must admit I didn't know there was a wedding section. Not somewhere I'd voluntarily wander onto but I like some of the nutty wedding topics.

As for babynames, well. Stanley. I can say no more. (not an MN thread, btw, just what I heard a toddler called yesterday)

MorrisZapp · 09/04/2010 14:16

Stanley ticks all the boxes for me:

Can you spell it?

Can you pronounce it?

Can you use it to make a fairly educated guess at the gender of the child?

Yes, yes and yes.

Therefore, Stanley is an acceptable name.

ChippingIn · 09/04/2010 14:21

Morris - good grief... Stanley - REALLY??? Without wishing to cause anyone with a Stanley any upset - how could you do that to a child????

Mumblechum - Stanley has been being suggested fairly frequently on the NM BN Board) - why? why? why? why? why? urghhhh

Hmm - can you see why I don't go there so often!!

mumblechum · 09/04/2010 14:22

It's probably spelled Stah'n'leigh.

Yes I am a cow. And Edith. Edith!!

mangoandlime · 09/04/2010 15:08

ChippingIn, of course I don't click on every wedding thread, do you think I want to bore myself into an early grave or something!

Angelcat666 · 09/04/2010 15:41

There's a wedding topic section?

nickelbabe · 09/04/2010 15:48

was it my thread?

if so, i would like to point out in my defence that i was feeling ranty about my visit to itsyrdayhun.com

anything that leaves you ranty should be on AIBU.

actual planning weddings and stuff about them should go in wedding topic.

nickelbabe · 09/04/2010 15:49

a girl just came in my shop called Hermione.

i may have gushed a little because i love that name.
