smoking in a kids playground/area?

Three times over the Easter holidays in three different places, all women.

Why?

We can smell it eg: breathe it in. It makes no difference that you are outside.

I told one woman off as he flicked fag ash landed on my sons coat.

From now on I am going to take out cubed smelly blue cheese and throw it chunk by chunk at a smoker in a playground, they are infecting my atmosphere so I will infect theirs.

I didn't mention class until I saw there were quite a few mentions of chavs etc on the thread. Got any vinegar

Francagoestohollywood · 09/04/2010 18:18

Smoking seems to be a class issue in the UK, just as it is in the USA, it happens when you attach moral values to it.

Francagoestohollywood · 09/04/2010 18:20

Giveitago, sadly the % of young people binge drinking is rising in Italy too.
But again, I don't think my children will get drunk because mummy used to drink half a glass of nebbiolo with her dinner.

foureleven · 09/04/2010 18:23

I used to smoke in the playground when I was a smoker. I used to think nothing of it and got really cross when mums tutted me.

Now I dont smoke I am the one tutting!

And of course, on both sides of the fence I thought I was in the right!

If you are a smoker a lot of things dont seem unacceptable as long as you get a fag in you.

IMO YANBU to expect your children to be free from inhaling other peoples smoke. I can understand from a smokers point of view thought that you dont get why people take such offense.

Ps I mostly dont admit to having been a smoker

IveStillGotIt · 09/04/2010 18:39

I dont think theres anything wrong with smoking outdoors, as long as its not in anyones face. I smoke and when my ds was younger, i would stand in a corner of the park away from anyone else, i certainly did not stand near the play equipment puffing away, theres nothing worse than seeing mothers sticking small dc in baby swings while balancing a fag between their lips, and then proceeding to push them while puffing away!!!

sneezecake · 09/04/2010 18:55

I find it very offensive when smokers are smoking in play grounds, my family doesn't smoke, as I have made the choice for ds to have smoke free lungs, as it is a known fact that passive smoking is just as harmful as actual smoking. not to mention it is a disgusting habbit. One of which I don't wish for my son to pick up later in life.
I don't want to control other people's behaviour, but I think it reasonable that they should realise that smoking is becoming increasingly anti-social and take their filthy habbit to a place where they are only affecting themselves.

I can't believe this thread has gone on as long as it has especially as I don't think anyones actually said that they smoke in playgrounds. I'd be more concerned about the needles, glass and condoms littering the playground I walk past on my way to work but it takes all sorts I suppose. Kids have got to learn about those things sometime. I love MN AIBU, so entertaining. Any way I'm off for a ciggie. See you later control freaks

Oh god I had to come back and read Boneybackjefferson. Darling, there's no denial here. I am in fact dying of lung cancer and it's nothing to do with smoking. ( so am I a nice innocent victim now?) Now, I don't need to make you feel bad or have anyone's sympathy, but please don't presume you have a clue.

Now I can kill the thread!!!!

ToccataAndFudge · 10/04/2010 14:38

"Why can't people just be adult and say yes, smoking in a children's playground is a really pants thing to do. But I am so desperate for a fag that I am going to carry on doing it."

There I said it

ToccataAndFudge · 10/04/2010 14:41

actually I didn't so I'll say it now

I smoke in playgrounds, it's a pants thing to do but I'm that desperate for a fag I do it anyhow

BoneyBackJefferson · 10/04/2010 14:55

wahwah

I saw lung cancer from the other side.

1 parent from smoking.
1 friend from working in pubs and clubs.

So I do have a clue.

you have my sympathy.

Sassybeast - I wanted to CAT you but you don't accept messages. Is there any chance you would have a brief exchange of emails with me off board? I do accept CAT. Would be ever so grateful.
