smoking in a kids playground/area?

Three times over the Easter holidays in three different places, all women.

Why?

We can smell it eg: breathe it in. It makes no difference that you are outside.

I told one woman off as he flicked fag ash landed on my sons coat.

From now on I am going to take out cubed smelly blue cheese and throw it chunk by chunk at a smoker in a playground, they are infecting my atmosphere so I will infect theirs.

I would play devils advocate then. I would love to go & stand right next to them & let out a huge fart .

That way they could complain about that being offensive.

giveitago · 08/04/2010 22:24

Ah porc - that would be telling - if it resonates with you perhaps we live in the same are.

spain - I used to live there and I remember having to get a certificate of health for my work permit. I had to buy the certificate at the local tobacco shop which I found very funny and the doctor that did the health exam had a fag in her mouth during the entire process and no ashtray.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 08/04/2010 22:24

'She needs to watch where she's going then!'

are you serious?
In an area where children are running round and playing, it was dd's responsibility to avoid the woman waving a burning stick in the air?

carocaro · 08/04/2010 22:30

I think those on this thread who think it's still ok to just stand outside the playground when smoking are toatlly DELUDED. Where do they think their smoke goes?

Chucking cheese at someone is no different than someone chucking smoke at me. Neither has a right to inflict shite on the other.

As for getting kids to watch wear they are going to avoid litsw fag ends is just selfish to say the least.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 08/04/2010 22:37

Actually, lackinglibido, I am thoroughly pissed off with your post blaming my dd for being burnt with a cigarette.

She was running round pushing the roundabout for some younger children, silly woman stood very close and talking whilst waving fag burnt her face

no, she shouldn't have to watch out for burning fag ends
she is a child
would you argue that discarding needles in a playground is ok? If a child picks one up they should have more common sense?

She wasn't running around in a pub
it was a childrens play area

libido not the only thing you are lacking
your common sense has also gone astray

carocaro · 08/04/2010 22:38

And because it still stinks even when it's outside you divs!

Why should I move me and my kids out of the way of your stink and smoke?

Would you like me to egg fart and made you stand their and smelt it?

"Oooh but it's outside people, take a chill pill"

Where on earth do you think the smoke goes? Come on tell me where?

"But it won't give you Cancer unless you start smoking so breathing in a few lungfulls of my smoke becuase I'm a lazy and selfish and have to be able to see my kids on the swings whilst I smoke it just fine"

"But don't throw cheese at me becuase that's an esculation and I might cry if cheese hit me and stains my coach"

Boo FUCKING Hoo.

That's hilarious! At least my midwife doesn't have a fag hanging out of her mouth when I go to see her! They might make smoking in enclosed public spaces illegal here soon too. If they can do it in France....

junglist1 · 08/04/2010 22:44

I couldn't care less if someone smokes outside. This is just mass hysteria.

giveitago · 08/04/2010 22:49

Petisa

It was great - I loved the idea you buy a health cert from a shop that kills you. We are going back 20 years here.

I was a teacher in companies and first thing the students would do is put an ashtray in the middle of the table and pretty much all light up.

My dh is Italian and until recently you could smoke in shops there. They have the ban now - before us actually but it's routinely ignored.

thesunshinesbrightly · 08/04/2010 23:21

Don't go to the park then, if your that bothered, smoker's don't have enough right's as it is, it's on the border of racism, disgusting.

Tiredmumno1 · 08/04/2010 23:57

Lol @ junglist mass hysteria (grin)

Tiredmumno1 · 09/04/2010 00:00

whoops i meant lol

wahwah · 09/04/2010 07:23

Fuck me, some of you lot are just looking for
opportunities to be holier than though. I'm so glad you have a subhuman species of children's playground smoker to demonise. Must make the old passive aggressive looks and huffs really satisfying.

And OF COURSE you don't care about cars, because that would impact on you and your actions. Its just so pathetic IMO, please get a grip before you expose your petty thouhts to the outside world.

Wow! That was harsh, but satisfying! And for the record am non smoker for years.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 09/04/2010 07:36

Thesunshines is exactly right. Asking people not to blow toxic smoke into the faces of small children is practically racism. It's disgusting. After all, smokers can't help where or how they were born. Why won't anyone bear in mind the troubled history of lynching, slavery, genocide and segregation that smokers have had to ensure over time, and be more thoughtful?

Konstanza · 09/04/2010 07:48

So, wahwah, having the opinion that making children breathe in toxic smoke for the sake of personal gratification is unacceptable makes me "holier than though (sic)", petty and pathetic? I think you're sadly lacking in basic decency.

AliGrylls · 09/04/2010 08:08

I noticw none of you anti's have been able to answer my point about lung disease being dose related. Well I guess that there is nothing to really argue about on that point!

porcamiseria · 09/04/2010 09:05

I agree that in Europe people are so gung ho about smoking, that the mild offences here dont bother me that much

when we go to Italy I reluictantly accept that DS will breathe in a bit more smoke than I'd like. Of course I move him away but there are those nanoseconds.

Like wise in France I saw a couple both smoking, sat outside a cafe with a baby on one of them with a sling!

and I agree people get so cat-bum-mouth about smokers and then disregards the parallel risk of car exhaust fumes!!! I'd bet they inhale more smoke walking a by a quueue of cars waiting for traffic light

BoneyBackJefferson · 09/04/2010 09:31

AliGrylls

Its your point, you can start with the evidence, Although if lung desiese id dose related then surely it is better if the dose is reduced.

porcamiseria

when no smokers drive or smoking prooves to be useful in any way I will ceed (sic) the point about exhaust fumes.

Sassybeast · 09/04/2010 09:38

YANBU. It's a disgusting anti social habit but until it's banned completely, we'll have to put up with smokers polluting our atmoshere and that of our children, setting a bad examle to our kids as well as their own, damaging their health and that of their children and placing an immense burden on the NHS. But it's 'their' right innit

Abcinthia · 09/04/2010 09:54

I think people shouldn't smoke in the playground because it is an area for children. It is disgusting to see cigerette butts all over the ground of a playground. I've been at a playground with my daughter and seen other children picking cigerette butts off the ground and then putting them in their mouth, copying the adults who are standing around smoking.

BattyKoda · 09/04/2010 09:58

It's gross.

DP smokes, but he wouldn't dream of doing it anywhere near anyones children. In fact we went to a childrens farm at the weekend, and he went out to the car park to have a smoke.

megapixels · 09/04/2010 10:15

Isn't smoking in most playgrounds banned though? Our local ones have the signs for no dogs, no smoking etc.

YANBU. Am shocked at the argument that the little girl who got burned should have been watching where she ran in a children's playground . What a moronic thing to say.

AliGrylls · 09/04/2010 10:17

Okay well I will start with this: hardly a surprise considering that it has been established fact that for several years that direct smoking is the biggest cause of lung cancer. 96% of cases of lung cancer are in smokers.

txtwriter.com/Onscience/Articles/smokingcancer2.html

Part of my point is that the dose that they will inhale outside as a one off is minimal. I find these arguments about the fact "oh my child will get lung cancer" are ridiculous - no they won't.

I have also pointed out that the only reason to not smoke in front of children is the example it sets to them. I would not want my children to grow up and smoke because it is terrible for their health. However, a little passive smoke outside is not going to do very little harm to them.

porcamiseria · 09/04/2010 10:19

exactly Ali, exactly

thesunshinesbrightly · 09/04/2010 10:21

Hardly think smoker's are blowing their smoke in kid's faces, but suppose all you non-smoker's are a bit

Smoker's Can smoke where they like, don't like it, moooooooove on.
