i know i'm not!

i've come back because i'm fed up of trying to drum into these women some decent hymn suggestions.

i quote "we've chosen Give me joy in my heart and Lord of the Dance for our service because everyone will know them and at least they'll sing"

no they won't!!!
they'll just wonder why you've chosen "songs" that they knew in junior school and weren't any good then!

Lord of the dance? WTF? it's not an appropriate wedding hymn!!

there are about 80 million hmyns around: most of which are suitable for weddings and LOOOOAAADDDS that your guests will have heard of!! why choose rubbish???????

I had Lord of the Dance while it may not be a suitable hymn for a weeding surely its personal choice?

Just cos its not your choice does why does that make it wrong?

strandedatsea · 08/04/2010 14:46

Anyone who goes to a website called Itsyrdayhun.com gets what they deserve. Sorry but what??????

nickelbabe · 08/04/2010 14:50

babyicebean it's my experience that peopel choose these hymns because they can't be bothered to research decent hymns.
yet tehy'll spend months and months researching flowers and bows and chair covers.

it's not appropriate because it's about jesus being crucified.
and it's not very grown up.

of course, i respect your decision, but there are other, much better choices out there.

Why do you care? Its not your wedding.

nickelbabe · 08/04/2010 14:53

because it's just awful

Yeah, its thr day hun.

(you got me, I did go and look for itsyrdayhun.com )

babyicebean · 08/04/2010 14:56

I did reasearch Hymns but I LIKE that one and while I know what it is about being that himself and I are both dancers we felt it was suitable for us.

Please tell me there isn't really a website called "itsyrdayhun.com". Please. Or at least that it only exists in order to piss off the bridezillas.

Pikelit · 08/04/2010 15:00

Fuckit.

nickelbabe · 08/04/2010 15:02

no, Pikelit, it's a name i made up a while ago because there was a thread ranting about wedding websites and bridezillas, all going "its yr day hun" (without apostrophe).
i put that as the title because i didn't want to slag off a specific bridezilla site, even though, obviously i am.

We had the Boy's Brigade hymn (Will Your Anchor Hold) at our wedding because dh was in the BB, and it turned out so were about 80% of the guests - was sung v loudly.

Not terribly appropriate, especially the third verse (which we didn't sing):

Will your anchor hold in the floods of death
When the waters cold chill your latest breath

Cheery!

It was one of the hymns at my great uncle's funeral a couple of weeks later. Arguably an more appropriate setting. But hey ho!

SoupDragon · 08/04/2010 15:03

Do you often feel the need to impose your idea of decent onto others?

nickelbabe · 08/04/2010 15:03

babyicebean your reasons and research are valid.
i like your reasons.
but yours is the only time that that hymn is suitable for a wedding (please don't hate me!)

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 08/04/2010 15:04

Although I do think you should register that domain name and set up a wedding site...

SD not often.
i get rant moments.

this is one of them (it's from years of singing at weddings in the choir and noone ever approaching the organist to suggest hymns: even our vicar said that they don't listen to the CDs she gives them)

Lord of the Dance was won of the hymns recommended by our vicar

Can I just point at, at risk of a flaming, that "I vow to thee, my country" and "Jerusalem" are both very hard to sing, especially for people who are only required to sing in church at the occasional wedding, and will therefore probably sound very lame.
