My daughter and I took a journey in a taxi yesterday. It was an agreed price - £35 - and the company were told beforehand that I had some bags and a small occasional table to transport with me.
We were met on time by a driver who greeted us by complaining that he should have been going home and hadn't wanted to take this fare. He then tried to dispute the taking of the table until DD pointed out how easy it was to get it into his large Volvo.
We got into the car, which stank (tbh, it smelt like pee to me) and was filthy. Not just "been on the road all day, it's 5pm, taxi needs it's daily tidy-up" sort of unclean, but really unpleasantly unclean with clearly dirty seats (as if mud had dried into them) and dirty/mud-type brown stains even on the backs of the driver and passenger seats.
We hadn't even got out of town before the driver nearly drove into a car coming the other way. He'd been fiddling with the Sat-Nav, drove forwards although there was a van parked on the bend on his side of the road, and cursed the oncoming driver whom he had to swerve to miss. Luckily he was only going slowly as he was approaching a junction.
Later in our journey he clipped a roundabout on a busy and notoriously dangerous A road whilst talking about, pointing to and craning his neck to see a new building to my left.
This is a taxi firm in a small city and AFAIK is the 2nd largest firm in that city. I had half a mind to withold part of my fare when I arrived at my destination yesterday but tbh was so tired and just glad to get home, anxious to get away from the driver, who was to put it mildly a bit of a weirdo, and get my DD indoors, who was scared of the driver and his driving, that I paid up as agreed. Nonetheless I am still really cross with the company for employing such a man and using such a car. AIBU to write to the firm and complain?
