To not gift things to people on Freegle/Freecycle who don't use capital letters?.

I'm tending to over look requestst from folk who type "pls" instead of "please", think it's acceptable never to use punctualion, and spell "thanks" as "thanx"?

I had about 10 requests for something yesterday, and only one persons request didn't make me go .

I feel like I'm being unreasonable, but DH says I'm not.

I naturally feel the same but try not to let it be the basis of my decision making on Freecycle.

I think to myself that it may be indicative of a poor standard of education and therefore potentially a lower wage and more in need of the items I have available.

This is probably patronizing too, but possibly better than writing them all off.

LynetteScavo · 07/04/2010 14:59

I just offered some books...all the replies had perfect grammar and punctuation.

What's punctualion?

GibbonInARibbon · 07/04/2010 15:13

YABU.

Would bug me too but overlooking the request?

Harsh.

LynetteScavo · 07/04/2010 16:10

So what's the best way to choose?

14 requests for a buggy board. Incuding several heart breaking strories about small chidlren getting tired on the way home from nusery, etc.

So hard to decide...

Oooh don't ask me at the mo Lynette, pregnancy hormones and worry has me far too emotional - I would be buying 13 buggy boards...It must be hard to choose but grammar/text speak would not be a factor for me

It depends whether you are using Freegle to get rid of stuff you don't want anymore (its purpose), or using it to indulge your fantasies of being a benevolent dictator, deciding who is worthy of your goodwill.

You choose.

hocuspontas · 07/04/2010 16:22

I know the feeling. I find it hard to reply to ops that are spelling disasters and leave out apostrophes

Jamieandhismagictorch · 07/04/2010 16:26

Lynette - do what I do. Leave buggy board or suchlike on the street outside house. It will go within 10 minutes and you won't need to agonise about punctuation or the deservedness of the recipient

I have discussed Freecycle on here before, and i still don't really get it. If you want rid of it, just get rid. If you want to feel good, give it to charity. Either way, you are recycling, so that's good.

Hello Gibbon... didn't see you there

Your choice - if I have several responses to choose from I give to whoever gives me the vibes of being likely to collect reliably - close by and complete sentences is good but I wouldn't let occasional textspeak put me off - I also keep all my Freecycle correspondence in a special folder so I can check who's been reliable or crap in the past.
