You know, some sort of armistice, if you will..

YABU

mamsnet · 06/04/2010 13:03

Or maybe just unrealistic?

Bensmum76 · 06/04/2010 13:04

YABU, if we can't talk/moan about them on here, where can we do it??

Bucharest · 06/04/2010 13:04

We could, but we'd have to kill them all first.

Anyway, I am being very Liberal Democrat today about them. I have called one MIL a loon and one DIL a DILzillaLoon so am being verrrrrr fair indeedy.

SpicedGerkin · 06/04/2010 13:05

You asked in AIBU so.... But yes i think hell is more likely to freeze over first.

If i ignore the fact that i will be one one day they can be quite entertaining.

Fennel · 06/04/2010 13:06

I think it's very interesting. i'd like to see the MIL threads dragged into the Feminist topics though so we could discuss why so many women (IMO) seem to be so upset with their MILs when I, personally, would instead be annoyed at the DHs in most of the situations people describe. To me it's the DHs not intervening, not pulling their weight, letting the MIL and DIL lock horns, etc.

cory · 06/04/2010 13:08

I agree with Fennel: too often people seem to be blaming their MILs for their dhs being wet. As far as I'm concerned, my dh is a big boy: if he can't manage his own affairs (including birthday presents for his family), then I'm not going to be covering up for him, or blaming his Mum for not bringing him up properly; he's not a little boy any more.

mamsnet · 06/04/2010 13:10

It wasn't really a serious question, ladies.. but it does get tedious, doesn't it?
And I completely agree with you, Fennel.

Spidermama · 06/04/2010 13:12

Good point Fennel.

There are plenty of threads on MN saying with positive descriptions of MILs IME.

Most of us will be MILs one day so we would do well to understand more and condemn less perhaps.

TheCrackFox · 06/04/2010 13:13

I completely agree with your post Fennel.

A lot of women need to have a go at their DH for being spineless but, i guess, it is so much easier to moan about MIL than admit they have married a wally.

muddleduck · 06/04/2010 13:15

maybe they could be confined to their own topic?

Francagoestohollywood · 06/04/2010 13:16

YANBU, and I agree with Fennel.

MorrisZapp · 06/04/2010 13:18

Don't forget SILs too, the ones who never help out at parties, who send crap presents, who live in filthy houses and who ask their mothers to babysit.

In almost all cases the SIL has a male partner who is never mentioned but presumably is equally responsible for the lack of help at parties, crap presents, filthy house and monopolising granny time.

mamsnet · 06/04/2010 13:18

A whole section on MILs?????

FREAKY!!!!

OP posts:
Shaz10 · 06/04/2010 13:20

The section could have a picture of Les Dawson in the title.

SalFresco · 06/04/2010 13:20

My DH isn't spineless, and he doesn't like his mother either. Nor do her other children. It's really sad. I wish I loved her, becuase I have 2 boys .

muddleduck · 06/04/2010 13:20

Obviously only the evil ones should be confined the special section, the rest can maintain their civil ,liberties and be free to come and go as they like.

mamsnet · 06/04/2010 13:21

ROFL at Les Dawson!

OP posts:
tethersend · 06/04/2010 13:32

'We keep a photo of the mother in law in pride of place on the mantelpiece.

Keeps the kids away from the fire."

Best Les Dawson joke ever.

ImSoNotTelling · 06/04/2010 13:39

"married a wally" made me grin as did les dawson.

nice one

ShadeofViolet · 06/04/2010 13:41

Why is it that society excepts that men dont like thier MIL, everyone laughs and makes jokes blah blah blah. If a woman doesnt like her MIL she is the DIL from hell, a bitch etc?

FalafelAtYourFeet · 06/04/2010 13:42

YABU, where else am I expected to get my entertainment?

mamsnet · 06/04/2010 13:43

Do you really think that society accepts that men don't like their MILs?
I definitely don't accept it, as a blanket statement anyway..

OP posts:
MorrisZapp · 06/04/2010 13:43

Actually MIL jokes went out with the ark. If my DP made jokes about hating his MIL I'd tear him a new one.

MrsForHowLong · 06/04/2010 13:54

My DH and my mother got on very well...until the birth of dc4...
