Facebook Status Shuffle...racist post...

Its gone 3 in the morning, despite having taken some heavy duty pills I am still awake so I tip toe down to the computer and the following is on a status on my newsfeed.

"Police in Liverpool have arrested 3 of 4 well known scouse Islamic terrorists. Bin Snort-in, Bin Deal-in and Bin Thieving, there is no sign of Bin Work-in"

I dont want it on my homepage however, given the hour I may be just being pissy. Plus I don't know if status shuffle is automatic or if the poster selects their status.

I have just hidden status shuffle from my news feed - would you go further and comment to the friend? Actually, family member so could start ww3 and 4.

What does the mumsnet jury think?

I'd say something.

Does your relative have a personal problem with Liverpudlians?

2shoeskickedtheeasterbunny · 05/04/2010 07:41

some of them are horrid, I have seen some that have the r word in them. but you can report them.
oh and you select it, it is not automatic

damnedchilblains · 05/04/2010 07:42

It's a bit of a shitty joke but I don't think it's racist. Maybe just comment that it's not funny

I agree with ScreaminEagle. Being Scots I always hear lots of jokes involving us but it is just banter.

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 05/04/2010 10:34

You object to racism against scousers? I didn't realise they were an ethnic group

Because that's who it's insulting.

2old4thislark · 05/04/2010 10:56

oooooopss - I laughed........

Alouiseg · 05/04/2010 10:57

Just keep an eye out for your hubcaps now you've outed them! I laughed too

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 05/04/2010 11:32

pssst 2old & Alouiseq - I laughed too. [going straight to hell emoticon]

ToccataAndFudge · 05/04/2010 11:35

I laughed as well

Alouiseg · 05/04/2010 11:37

God where would we be without humour? My facebook photo is often a pic of Ugly Betty due to my striking resemblance to her!

I'm also referred to as Verruca Salt due to my tantrums.

I'm painting a lovely picture!

InSomeKneeAck · 05/04/2010 11:51

Ah cold light of day. Let me see...

I still think its a crap joke, potentially offensive to Islamics and Liverpudlians and I still don't want it on my newsfeed considering, but...

If said person wants to make such a bold statement about their humour its their status not mine.

oh just realised I put this in AIBU - I thought it was in chat, thats what you get for posting when sleep deprived!

Political correctness is slowly killing humour. The funniest jokes tend to be the ones that 'shock' me and say things that shouldn't really be said.

InSomeKneeAck · 05/04/2010 12:22

Mmmm I can see that 2old4thislark, I tend to think that if a joke is close to the bone, it should be saying something that needs to be said. For example back in the days of Ben Elton and perhaps even Alexi Sayle, some of their satire really made you guffaw whilst wondering 'is it really ok to laugh at this?' But it was useful political comment and got you thinking.

All that status shuffle says is 'scousers and immigrants are druggies and theives and scrounge off the system'. Not particularly useful as far as I can see. Maybe I'm expecting too much of facebook!

As long as we have free speech and the internet we will see things we don't agree with. That's life.

InSomeKneeAck · 05/04/2010 12:32

I guess so. Fortunate then that facebook has a hide button.
