Can't see the problem really ...

Pozzled · 03/04/2010 15:43

Personally I wouldn't allow it, but TBH I couldn't explain why. It does seem very young to me, to be exposed to all that kind of hero-worship type stuff that seems to come with following groups.

However, I think it is completely down to you as parents- I would say you need to talk to DH further about why he doesn't think it is appropriate.

ConnorTraceptive · 03/04/2010 15:50

I guess it's not a prob but I do thinks it's a bit weird but like pozzled I don't know why. My 5 year ols has a poster of ice age and toy story so a pop group seems a little grown up.

bubblagirl · 03/04/2010 15:54

if they like it then why not its innocent its not sexualised my son has pictures of characters he likes, to a 5 yr old band pic is no different my 5 yr old son likes muse if he wanted pic up id let him they go off things so quick it'll probably be pulled down or drawn on before too long lol

lolapoppins · 03/04/2010 15:59

At 5, my ds had a room full of Beatles and Rolling Stones posters.

He is 7 now, and has upgraded them to rare Beatles album covers he has collected and copies of Beatles photos from ebay. A little bit of hero worship of Paul McCartney has meant that he is excelling at playing guitar and piano. Nothing wrong with it.

Hulababy · 03/04/2010 16:07

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. After all what harm can it do?

damnedchilblains · 03/04/2010 16:38

JLS???? YABU! Now if it was Bob Marley or the Beatles etc well then............. .

seeker · 03/04/2010 16:43

Why on earth not? My ds has had the Liverpool team, The Beatles and The Hoosiers on his wall since about that age.

plonker · 03/04/2010 16:47

lol at all these Beatle-loving kiddies ...great taste!

It's a poster of JLS not Katie Price! I don't see the problem

pigletmania · 03/04/2010 17:08

Absolutely no problem with it, whats wrong with wanting a picture of a pop group on the wall.

Maleeka · 03/04/2010 17:10

Cant see a problem with it either

muggglewump · 03/04/2010 17:13

Absolutely fine.

pissovski · 03/04/2010 17:15

I was about 5 or 6 when i had a huge poster of Boy George in the full Karma Chameleon get up on my wall (alongside Mickey Mouse poster and Liverpool FC!).

It'll probably be off the wall in few weeks/months anyway. Really don't see a problem

shockers · 03/04/2010 17:19

I had one of 'Little Jimmy Osmond'

stressheaderic · 03/04/2010 17:20

5 is a little young? My 5 year old niece's room has fairy lights and canvasses with Lion King pictures on and Beauty and the Beast.
For a 5 year old boy, I'd still be thinking dinosaurs, wizards and a map of the world or something. I wouldn't ban the band poster as such, I'd just be surprised they were so aware of pop groups etc.

Can't see a huge problem with it. I'd be more worried about his taste in music, tbh!

I am trying to train my children to understand that a "group" must include lead and bass guitars, drums and possibly a vocalist.

overmydeadbody · 03/04/2010 17:34

stressederic I don't think 5 is too young. Some people are just very into music, from a young age, not all kids are into Disney.

I see nothing wrong with it. For my DS it is posters of chris sharma and Top Gear. If he could get his hands on a poster of the Magic Numbers (his fvourite band) he would.

upahill · 03/04/2010 17:38

This is not a CUK post is it!!!

What's the problem???

SalFresco · 03/04/2010 19:00

My DS1 is nearly 4 and loves JLS!! He also likes Oasis, Kirsty Maccoll, and the Lemonheads. He hasn't asked for a picture of any of them, but he has got Definitely Maybe for his birthday . If he wanted a picture, I would let him put one up.

mangoandlime · 03/04/2010 19:02

Don't sweat the small stuff, embrace his musical interests...(dodgy as they are..joke!)
