to think that some cyclists are trying to KILL ME!

Ok, before I get biscuits, I know there are many more lovely, law abiding cyclists out there than there are seemingly homicidal ones.

I just have a problem with the ones who:

a) Come tearing round a tight (and fenced in on both sides) blind corner, on the footpath, just a few short feet from a cycle lane. Bye bye kneecaps

b) Cycle behind you on the footpath (clues in the name) ringing their bell cos they can't fit round you and your pram. Then finally over take you and call you a 'fat snail'.....

c) Cycle on the 2ft of pavement in front of the bus stop, when its packed, and run into ME - 25 weeks pregnant (last year) sending me flying, and not even stop. Thanks, I really needed that unpaid day off spent in the antenatal ward! Again, there was a cycle lane right next to the pavement.

I'm lucky enough to live in an area where there are LOADS of cycle lanes. But unfortunately very few people chose to use them.

Maybe I just have a lot of bad experiences with cyclists!

I saw a policeman cycling (very fast) on the pedestrian walk heading down to the underpass, which he also cycled through. I thought cycling on paths was illegal (maybe the MN community can tell me if this is correct?)

I am shocked at your experience Narabug, especially at c. Perhaps you could try yelling abuse at anyone not using the cycle lane until they are embarrassed into leaving the path?

Narabug · 02/04/2010 20:09

I would try yelling, if they were ever not going so fast that all they'd hear would be "oi........"

Urgh!

I think it is illegal you know

"Fat Snail"?! And c) is terrible!! I've just asked DH who is a Special Constable and he says that it is illegal to cycle on a footpath - here.

Narabug · 02/04/2010 20:51

Thanks lefroglet!

Its nice to know I am not losing the plot. It may be illegal but I guess the police are a bit busy to worry about enforcing it - fair enough I'd rather they were trying to prevent serious crime. Would be nice if cycling on the pavement was a bit more of a 'social faux pas' rather than the accepted norm.

I say 'cos it's not like there's a cycle path' in a voice. Although I will probably get punched in the face one of these days.

There was a long running and funny-if-it wasn't-so-annoying argument in the letters page of our village magazine, with the drivers and pedestrians asking why the cyclists don't use the bloody cycle path which cost £££ to build, and the cyclists saying they didn't have to cos it's not compulsory. So that was a good use of £100,000 then.
