... but when I go to the hairdresser I do not want a head massage!

I went to the hairdressers yesterday and while washing my hair they put the conditioner on and then started a very slow, intense head massage. I was not in the mood for this! And I am not into massage anyway. I felt that I could not ask her to stop as that would have been insulting to her.

....urgh makes me feel all shivery to think of it.

Or am I unusual to not like this?

Glad not just me being a sad old perve then, LaDiDaDi!!!

ARbaby · 31/03/2010 19:18

The hair washing/head massage is the worst bit for me. Almost enough to make me not want to go to the salon at all. Why are those chairs so uncomfortable? What I don't understand is that they are clearly adjustable yet they never get adjusted for you. One size fits all (not).

I agree with you myinnerjoan, It supposed to be relaxing but all the while you're thinking 'The sink is digging into my neck'.

harleyd · 31/03/2010 19:19

makes me horny as hell, i love it

MarshaBrady · 31/03/2010 19:19

Me too op, I ask them not to do it, shudder.

LaurieFairyCake · 31/03/2010 19:19

Yep, gets my jolly's going too.

I should pay for a proper massage

missmoopy · 31/03/2010 19:19

The idea is to shuffle around and get comfy first, than sit back and enjoy!

missmoopy · 31/03/2010 19:21

Laurie, proper massage isn't the same for me, i love having head massaged or hair played with....[backs slowly away from thread before making self sound anymore odd]

LaurieFairyCake · 31/03/2010 19:23

totally get that MM - I used to love being a week girl and we all used to braid each others hair in the playground.

we're all just monkey's really

LaurieFairyCake · 31/03/2010 19:24

wee girl NOT week

SimonCowellIsSatan · 31/03/2010 19:27

I don't think YAU I think you're a bit crazy though! My new hairdressers don't do this! It's wonderful getting a bead massage from someone who doesn't expect to get a shag after it every time like my husband always does!!!

frankie3 · 31/03/2010 19:32

She did ask me if I wanted the massage chair on and I said "No" as I have tried that before and it was really fierce, not at all relaxing. But I did say that I would have my feet up, although I then regretted having my old trainers on view for everyone to see. And she asked if I wanted 2 shampoos - I don't know why, I never wash my hair twice at home. But the head massage came as a surprise!

ooooh yes laurie I loved having my hair played with too...not in a kinky way just a lovely sensation. I love it when DS (4) offers to brush my hair!

choufleur · 31/03/2010 19:47

Oh i love that - really miss it actually as my hairdresser now comes to my house.

i too love my hair being played with.

in fact if i every win the lottery i would have my hair done professionally every day.

ericnorthmansmistress · 31/03/2010 19:49

Oooh I do! I love a head massage! What's your problem with it?

PrettyCandles · 31/03/2010 19:53

I love that bit. I always ask the hairwasher not to be too gentle.

It's a service that you are paying for, and it's for your pleasure. Have no hesitation asking for what you want.

Usually they ask about water temperature, conditioner, etc, but even if they don't I tell them what I want and ask them to adjust temperature etc to my liking.

A good scalp massage gets a good tip!

YANBU

I was at a new hairdresser yesterday and she did not so it. Hurrah. Another reason to return to her.

greensnail · 31/03/2010 20:00

I used to hate it too, but at my current hairdressers its always really nice. They also have really good massage chairs and they always make sure I have a chair with extra cushions as I'm quite short so I'm always really comfy

thirtysomething · 31/03/2010 20:01

I hate those head massages - they are meant to be relaxing but actually make me really tense and irritable! But am too chicken to tell them not to - always go to the same hairdresser and I really don't want to offend as she "understands" my weird hair!

brimfull · 31/03/2010 20:02

yanbu
I hate it too

Kariba29 · 31/03/2010 20:08

i dont get it?! To me thats the best part for those who hate it could it be you like it too much but are disgusted/ashamed by your reaction so end up hating it[?grin]

lotster · 31/03/2010 20:11

YABU.

I hate it when they start chatting during it though!

cornsilk · 31/03/2010 20:16

I hate it as well. Just get it over with - I hate having my hair washed by someone else.

SalFresco · 31/03/2010 20:22

I love it and have to stop myself groaning in pleasure

DH loves it too and goes to a unisex salon rather than a barbers purely for this reason.

DastardlyandSmugly · 31/03/2010 20:23

I love that bit too. If I didn't though I'd just ask them not to do it.

I take a book which usually curtails the chatting.

ElleBing · 31/03/2010 20:32

I went to the hairdressers last night and I'd been looking forward to it all day BECAUSE my hairdresser does a great head massage. I get a bit when she finishes.

Do you think there's any way I can get her to do it for longer without her thinking I'm getting off on it?
