Friend put on her status that some student asked to take a picture of her child for a game and were pissed off when she said no.

I put 'it really depends what they wanted the pics for doesn't it'

cue lots of people making veiled references to weirdos and paedos

another friend of mine said 'why wouldn't you, I took pics of some children in China after asking permission, too cute to pass up'

someone I don't know has added 'ericnorthman and otherfriend, children are not a commodity. Friend - well done! Don't let students trivialise the most important thing in your life!'

so I put 'X, I hope that was tongue in cheek, because if not that was the most sanctimonious bollocks I've heard in a long time'

Tell me - was that really rude to write to a complete stranger who is friends with my friend?

I got unreasonably mad when I read it. I was on a train with a group of students recently who all fell in love with DS, they asked if they could take some pics holding him, I was really flattered. I'm not saying that my friend should have let them take pics, that's her call, but the implied paedo hysteria got on my nerves. And that response - am I wrong? Was that sanctimonious bollocks?

nope he was serious - just wrote this -

ericnorthman - I would rather espouse "sanctimonious bollocks" as you delicately put it, than to let a bunch of idiots intimidate me and my kids As to who I am - I'm a friend of Joannas - have you got a problem with that?

"As to who I am - I'm a friend of Joannas"

Methinks you left out a bit from your actual FB comment...

SloanyPony · 30/03/2010 20:55

I think you have to take your AIBU hat off when you are on Facebook, otherwise, in upsetting your friends friends, you can also upset your ACTUAL friends.

So, you weren't being U in your sentiment, but you were potentially being U in firing up a debate on someone's status.

I figure on Facebook the done thing is to respond to your Friend, but let her friend's give their opinion without being jumped on.

On here, its a forum where people encourage you to voice your opinion. But its not really in the spirit of Facebook.

I agree it does rather look as though you have edited your FB comment when reproducing it on here.

What did you actually say in response to this guy? in full?

LynetteScavo · 30/03/2010 21:09

YABU.

I suspect the same as BEAUTIFUL.

ericnorthmansmistress · 30/03/2010 21:11

Yes I put 'X I'm not sure what it has to do with you' because he had directed the comment at me.

Yup, was a bit excessive. Other friend has now jumped in and asked him why he wants to cause a tiff by directing his comment at us.

God I've got in trouble on FB before by being too honest when other people write pure crap - I should just STFU I think!

BitOfFun · 30/03/2010 21:15

I would have trouble caring what anybody wrote on Facebook, tbh. Most of it appears to be drivel.

bibbitybobbityhat · 30/03/2010 21:17

Oh fgs. Who cares? Honestly, who, on Mumsnet, do you really think cares about what you write on Facebook?

ericnorthmansmistress · 30/03/2010 21:18

X I'm not sure what it has to do with you but I hope that was tongue in cheek, because if not that was the most sanctimonious bollocks I've heard in a long time'

I don't expect anyone on here to care about anything. But this isn't the most vacuous or inane thing I've ever read on here, so if you don't care about it, don't reply....

OP posts:
ericnorthmansmistress · 30/03/2010 21:21

oooo what celeb? Go on....

I'm a firm believer that was goes on FB is almost always better staying on FB.

It always makes fuckall sense when reported anywhere else. If it made fuckall sense in the first place, that is. But that's Facebook for you. The twilight zone of the internet.

VictoriasLittleKnownSecret · 30/03/2010 21:25

ericnorthmansmistress -chill!
You seem very uptight and then accuse others of it

ericnorthmansmistress · 30/03/2010 21:25

Well quite. I don't think the world was meant to be so small that you can have a virtual ruck with a person you have actually met once before (just worked out who the friend is) and say things you would never say to them in person!

OP posts:
ericnorthmansmistress · 30/03/2010 21:26

I didn't accuse anyone of being uptight?

Ok, am off to have a bath to chill. Thanks

I hate it when they put shite like 'having hanky panky with the other half' or 'i miss x so much' repeated numerous times of the day. Agghh. Get a life

flameproofsuit · 30/03/2010 21:28

Well you were ruder to him than he was to you so you do the maths.

Hahahaha so nothing to do with her in the first place? Why would she take your comment personally? That's funny.

Flameproofsuit - he started it {childish}

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 30/03/2010 21:32

I would find it hard to get worked up about anything on Facebook, tbh.

Well it's hard to tell exactly what went on as you haven't included the full list but it seems like lots of people were giving their opinions and then you just decided to be rude and tell him he was talking "sanctimonious bollocks".

So yes, since you ask, it made you sound like an arse.

ericnorthmansmistress · 30/03/2010 21:52

lots of people were giving their opinions, then he said to me 'XXXX, children are not commodities.'

Ah well, an arse I may be. It has been known.
