In the kitchen?

DH says it is, as I have them on on wall, fridge and one cupboard.

Is it tacky?

No its not tacky, its lovely! I love seeing kids' artworks on walls anywhere and our house is plastered with it.

As well as looking funky it shows them you love their art!!

MrsTittleMouse · 31/03/2010 22:30

It would be tacky if you wanted everyone who visited to fawn all over them. But I'm sure you don't. We have them up because it makes DD happy to know that we love the things that she makes for us.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 31/03/2010 22:31

Dd and I talked about this the other day
watching grand designs
this woman had spotless white amazing minimalist kitchen
dd says 'i bet she doesn't ever stick her dc pictures up like you, mummy'

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 31/03/2010 22:35

and yes to laminating
i laminate everything
came close to doing takeaway menus recently
tis an obsession
am the queen of lamination

CheerfulYank · 31/03/2010 22:43

Of course not tacky! I've strung a piece of twine above our windows in the dining room and decorated clothespins to hang up DS's newest pictures. And they're on the fridge, and will have a wall upstairs soon.

mummychicken · 31/03/2010 23:52

My Mum (in her 70's) found a piece of paper in her Mum's house when her Mum died (in her 90's) saying " first scribble" written by her Dad." Her Dad died in the 1960's and was a really strict Victorian, 2 world wars, stiff upper lip bloke

Mum cried for days (in a nice way) as she realised her Dad had loved her, just couldn't show it.

I have kept EVERY scribble DS has made (DH V Pissed off with me!) although I did make him clean off the crayon scribble he did on the floor tiles!

CheekyVimtoGal · 31/03/2010 23:59

nope i have an art wall from jack. he loves to stand there looking at them

coralanne · 01/04/2010 00:03

I used to wrap family presents in Dcs artwork when we couldn't get in the house anymore.

Yesterday I went down to the spareroom which we very rarely use. In the corner written with red texta was the very small word ,"Adam"

Adam is DGS just turned 5.

Then there was a little drawing of a dog next to it.

I just had to leave it there.

scottishmummy · 01/04/2010 00:05

our home has all children nursery artwork conspiciously displayed

i am so proud

Foxy800 · 01/04/2010 07:16

Why would that be tacky, I have my lo's work all over the kitchen.

piscesmoon · 01/04/2010 08:32

If people are more interested in the look of their house than the people who live in it they are very sad IMO. Children's art work is the sort of thing that turns it into a home.

nickschick · 01/04/2010 08:38

I have my dc artwork in various places and on various walls in our living room is a lovely picture ds2 did when Id just withdrawn him from school, its a very simple but lovely picture of daffodils in a vase ....displayed in a solid frame it looks fab and the amount of times ive been asked where I bought it and is it an original makes me very proud.

SE13Mummy · 01/04/2010 10:44

We have DD's creations on display in various places about our home. We also have one of these articulategallery.co.uk/default.aspx and are hoping to get some more as it means DD can choose which of her 'art' is on the wall (as opposed to kitchen, bedroom etc.)

Remotew · 01/04/2010 10:49

No it's part and parcel of being a parent. Junior school did A5 drawings and framed them, we had to pay a small amount to 'reserve' the work when it was exhibited along with other pieces for art week.

I still have the 4 drawings on my kitchen wall, they are very good.

jemart · 01/04/2010 11:09

My two dd's helped me paint the really big abstract painting we have hanging in our lounge. I'm an artist mind, it's my painting they just assisted in doing the background.
Their work generally ends up on the fridge or in their bedroom, I think it is really good for their self esteem to give their work wall space.

nannynobnobs · 01/04/2010 11:23

Aw I love having my DDs work up. We have just had the whole kitchen torn out and redone from floor to ceiling but before the entirety of the walls were covered with DD1's artwork, from the very first things she made at nursery (tiny footprints!) up to pictures from primary. Now DD2 has just started nursery we have started putting hers up too- the latest one is a beautiful rainbow in vivid colours. I might frame it I keep most of their pictures in a big binder, a few go in the recycling but most of them stay.

stickylittlefingers · 01/04/2010 11:25

We put up 4 ikea corkboards on the kitchen wall, and that is a constantly renewing gallery.

I don't have their work put up anywhere else tho. I wouldn't say it looked tacky, but having it all over the place might look a bit untidy?

nannynobnobs · 01/04/2010 11:25

I also have the first person DD1 ever drew in a little frame in the living room!

bridewolf · 01/04/2010 11:42

i have four kids, from ages 18-11, and i have kept everything they have ever made for us.

so as its easter, i have every single easter card, basket and decorations displayed on one wall.

i do the same for christmas, and for mothers day and fathers day.

its a beautiful display, and even still have cards to add to it, as eldest son is quite arty.
for mothers day he did a drawing of our youngest son, on a cliff , looking at the sea, ( something he loved doing on holiday last year)

i may be a bit sentimental about it all, but i feel it makes our home more ' homey ' if you know what i mean...

LadyMumma · 01/04/2010 20:34

After 2 yr old DDs first paintng session in new house I got all gooey with mum-pride as she noted with deep satisfaction 'painting that I made' in relation to seeing her first pictures up. Ok it aint high concept but I personally love seeing children's art and if your parents can't adore 'everything' you do what hope is there?!

drloves8 · 01/04/2010 22:04

i have a white bit of a4 paper with two empty yogurt pots stuck to it on my fridge at the moment. DD4 made it at nursery, ds4 says its something different every day, so far its been a dinosaur, a rocket, a car, a monster and a mountain picture... .
how can you not love the kids art?

outnumbered2to1 · 01/04/2010 22:09

i can't see the walls of my kitchen for my DC's artwork. they each have a back of door for the really good stuff but my walls are covered in handprints, footprints, my DS2 first picture (yes its a couple of scribbles with a coloured pencil and a dabber pen but it was his FIRST pic), the pic my DS1 did in nursery of our family (i'm proud to say i had it framed).

Any visitors to the house always comment on it in a good way (only one negative comment and that was my mother!!)

helenhicks · 02/04/2010 08:21

Is there a good way of fixing picture to the walls? My mum has made me paranoid about blu-tack leaving little greasy marks and I reckon sellotape would take the paint off? Is there some kind of magic option I've not thought of??

bossyboop · 02/04/2010 10:00

magic option...possibly. I was quite a craft addict and ideal world stock Crafters Companion stick and spray - its temporary and repositional and leaves no residue, theyve often said you could use it for kids drawings tho ive never tried it, can probs get it on internet/ebay etc.

I adore dd pictures, tho i admit the older she gets the more pics there will be so i cant put them all up but I store them away in a folder and im making a scrapbook with some of her first efforts in. They are things for me to treasure and im sure she will love looking at them when she is all grown up herself. I have some in the kitchen but wouldnt dream of only having them there coz no one will see them coz they make the place look messy. Its a bit harsh to say yes darling I love your picture but lets put it in here out the way. I have 4 A4 sheets on 1 door and 4 A4 sheets on another door in the lounge, arranged neatly and it doesnt interfere with the decor or look of the room. Some people call this room the family room not the mammy doesnt want your pics in here coz they look naff darling but heres a tissue to mop up your tears. I take pride in dd work and she does too and people like looking at them when they come.

mummyingreen · 03/04/2010 13:30

My dd's current blue period (she's 2 1/2 and I don't really think she'll follow in Pablo's footsteps!) is being displayed to cover the dodgy magnolia woodchip of our army accommodation- definitely the less tacky option!
