In the kitchen?

DH says it is, as I have them on on wall, fridge and one cupboard.

Is it tacky?

i put dd's pictures on my kitchen wall.my dh works away alot so he loves to see new pictures up when he comes home.

GoldenSnitch · 31/03/2010 12:52

I still remember being very proud of myself when Mum put my pictures on the wall when I was a child!!

Not tacky at all. Essential for building self confidence I'd say.

I have a special wall in the kitchen for "masterpieces" then the older ones go in my old art folder when we run out of space.

My Mum still has s folder full of my best/most sentimental stuff and I'm 31!

mingler · 31/03/2010 13:10

That reminds me, I need to get a new scrapbook.

How do people handle the huge (well A3 and above) ones? Is one of those artists portfolio things overkill?

coldtits · 31/03/2010 13:12

caring what other people think of your child's artwork on your fridge is 'tacky'

JollyPirate · 31/03/2010 13:13

Not tacky - my kitchen is full of DS's artwork. As he is on the autistic spectrum and has fine motor/pencil control probs every bit of artwork is precious to me and I love looking at it. DS will say "can we put my picture up"? It's lovely.

er....I hope not >>>

Have just stuck up some Easter crafts on the door but they keep falling down! Driving me mad (them falling down!)

Enjoy and be proud!

junglist1 · 31/03/2010 13:51

Who is he LordofPompousdom the eighth or somebody? It would only look wrong if your walls are covered in 6 foot portraits of dead royalty. Otherwise it's fine

ChippingIn · 31/03/2010 13:54

Of course it's not tacky!! How would he feel if no-one valued what he did at work?

It is messy though and did drive me bonkers!! We now have some magnetic framed boards (they look like white picture frames) & magnets on the wall in the kitchen/family room, where 4 large paintings fit - they get to choose which ones go on there and the others go in the keepsakes box (well, ahem, some of them , the others go in the recycling).

We do also have a couple of them framed on the wall - very cool abstract looking jobbies with a little hand print. In white frames, on white walls - I think they look good and don't care what anyone else thinks! sticking-out-tongue-emoticon

BendyBob · 31/03/2010 13:56

Noo! I love my gluey glittery pictures everywhere

Dear oh dear how could it be tacky? Plenty of time for bare minimal walls when they've all outgrown this

I don't really care what anyone thinks about what I have out really. I even have a wedding photo up (commits heinous crime of alluding to another thread)

Fel1x · 31/03/2010 14:00

I have a whole wall in my kitchen dedicated to art work by the Dcs. It makes the kitchen look much brighter and more colourful

GoldenSnitch · 31/03/2010 14:18

linky to the magnetic frames please chippingin

ChippingIn · 31/03/2010 14:31

Golden

We had ours made, but hey are similar to these and ours are white on white.

I just googled to find this one - there are a lot out there!

MathsMadMummy · 31/03/2010 14:34

our kitchen is tiny so when the kids are a bit older (i.e. more art going on) we're thinking of getting a massive memo board for the living room, just for their stuff.

Tellhimhesdreaming · 31/03/2010 14:38

My Dad used to hang our pictures in his office - and he's an Architect so keen sense of design (and loving father as I did not inherit any artistic qualities). Mum also used to use our drawings as wrapping paper..much nicer than any old boring stuff you can buy and we felt so special!

MaMight · 31/03/2010 14:41

It is very tacky to care what people think of you displaying your children's artwork.

GoldenSnitch · 31/03/2010 14:42

Will have a look, thanks ChippingIn

Does this tackiness extend to all childrens artwork then? I spent this morning making bubble painted thank you cards with DS (3) and am hoping people will find them adorable!

rhondajean · 31/03/2010 14:43

Struggle with this - I cant put it up, it just drives me mad cos it doesnt match and theres a touch of OCD comes out in me...doesnt mean Im not fiercely proud, I have portfolios and boxes in the spare room and I photograph particularly impressive pieces on my mobile and show them to people - so please, dont judge!! However the sheer volume of artwork produced by two children is impossible to keep up with anyway...would need a space the size of Tate Modern to display it....

missmoopy · 31/03/2010 14:50

How is it tacky? Children love to have their work displayed. Our entire kitchen wall is devoted to dd's art work and we change it regularly. It is lovely, as long as you do not charge entrance fee to relatives!!!!!

ChippingIn · 31/03/2010 14:50

rhondajean - that's exactly why we went for the magnetic framed boards and the framed pictures etc Everyone's a winner

Golden - I would love to get a card like that, it would go up for about a week, then put in a special box.

We do a LOT of artstuff and the LO's bring a lot home - and we do display the 'Modern Art' (loo rolls and yogurt pots) for a bit before they get re-recycled. I also take photos of most of it for their scrapbooks...

I'm not a bad person, truely, and their work is valued - it just needs to be displayed in an orderly fashion!!

NormaSknockers · 31/03/2010 14:55

Who cares if it is - DDs latest piece is on our fridge Everything she has pretty much ever made since she started nursery adorns almost every inch of her bedroom walls as she insists on having them up there. I guess one day they'll be swapped for posters of boybands

rhondajean · 31/03/2010 14:58

I do like the magnetic frame idea....I prefer the one about charging the relatives the entrance fee though - I remember selling the contents of our fruitbowl to visitors as a child and my two take after me....

AandO · 31/03/2010 15:07

I have framed a few of ds's paintings (he is 3) and put them on the living room wall. As well as the usual on the fridge thing. My dh didn't like any of the pictures/paintings I wanted to buy and put on the wall and the walls were bare for ages because we could not agree. He was happy to allow ds paintings on the living room wall though, so that's what we did. Don't care if it's tacky!

katiepotatie · 31/03/2010 15:07

i must be tacky then

rhondajean · 31/03/2010 15:20

NOOOOOOOOOO katie - Im just weird......
