just watching a cookery programme with Gino etc and CV is a guest. She never shuts up, everything is about her and she has got such boring anecdotes. Does she love trying to be the centre of attention?

Uggh cant wait til she shuts up. Its put me off the programme

Dreadful woman. Loathe her. Have never forgiven her for hijacking yer man with the pullovers' death on Countdown. Made it all about her.

(she's on my hitlist of Famous Carols Who Really Shouldn't Be along with Smiley Smilie Very Very Smilie.)

ElleBing · 29/03/2010 15:57

God, no you YANBU. Did anyone see her on QT? When have you EVER seen Vorderman wearing glasses in all the thirty or so years of broadcasting? Very transparent attempt to make herself appear knowledgable about politics. Even Boris Johnson tried to distance himself from her and she's supposed to be a Tory supporter!

Bucharest · 29/03/2010 15:58

Head explodes at thought of Boris and Carol sitting round a table sorting the country out......

alypaly · 29/03/2010 15:58

she is really showing her age now and rambling, but its all about her. She is like mutton done up as lamb(mioaow) but thinks she is it....i loathe her too Bucharest. Please dont have her as a TV guest again otherwise i will turn to another channel.

or breathing

Seriously, a crap degree from Cambrdge and a pair of dark rimmed glasses and she thinks she is a cross between Einstein and the educational equivalent of Florence Nightingale.

mayorquimby · 29/03/2010 16:01

Her appearance on QT was cringe inducing for the levels of stupidity she shamelessly displayed. Being good at maths and being on daytime tv does not mean your opinion on current affairs is any more valid.

bibbitybobbityhat · 29/03/2010 16:03

Fair enough to dislike the woman ... but immensely shallow to sneer at her for showing her age.

alypaly · 29/03/2010 16:04

glad i missed QT,......glasses...ha ha,who is she trying to kid.

i dont mind people showing their age....as it is natural, but she just dresses so inappropriately which actually makes her look older....sorry i didnt explain that very well.

Carol is a fab example to girls and the subject of math. YABVU. I think it's quite normal for people regardless of their gender to need glasses about the same time they start showing their ages.

I don't know much about her politics, but I give her all of my support on her attempts to resurect that failing maths curriculum kin our schools.

And absolutely fantastic to have a woman in this position to help counteract the victorian attidues about girls and math in our schools.

Jealous of Carol Vorderman? Don't think so.

I'm prepared to accept she is a mathematical genius. What she isn't is a very good tv presenter/showgirl/political analyst. (and she hijacked Richard Woolly Jumper's death, have I mentioned that????)

ElleBing · 29/03/2010 16:18

Green-eyed monster? Who would be jealous of bloody Vorderman? Jealous of Angelina Jolie? Maybe. Jealous of Gisele? Definitely! She's a very dull woman who happens to have a high IQ. And we have to suffer for it.

alypaly · 29/03/2010 16:19

no jealousy.....just cant stand the woman as she doesnt know when to stop talking on a show which is not even hers.I enjoy listening to good conversationalists, but not egocentrics.I agree, she is brilliant at maths and does alot for children and there studies, but to wear glasses for an intellectual programme is almost comical. (wish i had seen the programme now)

their studies...sorry Carol...spelled it wrongly

I saw her on Nevermind the Buzzcocks and she proceeded to tell a very long, shit story about her homelife. Until Frankie Boyle shut her up

bibbitybobbityhat · 29/03/2010 16:23

I am not much younger than Carol Vorderman and need to wear glasses sometimes, but cannot wear them permanently even if I wanted to. Its an enormously common thing when you are in your forties.

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/03/2010 16:25

I don't think it was just the wearing of the glasses, it was the earnest and stern peering over the top of the glasses to make a ppoint which was laughable.

I don't think she is a fab role model for girls in maths tbh. She spent the majority of her career doing some sums on the telly, then had a mid life crisis and wore a short blue dress and spiked her hair up in a fesity manner, then made a bomb selling detox books. She now wants to reinvent herself as some kind of Bill Gates philanthropist cum maths guru.

ellesapelle · 29/03/2010 16:28

YANBU. Awful woman. She was especially awful on QT - like the Daily Mail personified.

alypaly · 29/03/2010 16:28

im older than Carol Vorderman and need to wear glsses for distance and reading but i certainly wouldnt wear them to make me appear more intelligent. I tend to agree with you GetOrfMoiland. Youve just reminded me of the spikey hair and minis...def midlife crisis

OP posts:
bibbitybobbityhat · 29/03/2010 16:29

If you want to be able to read your notes in front of you, then look out and focus on the distance, and you only have single vision lenses and you are long sighted and you don't want to have to keep taking your glasses off and putting them on again, then an awful lot of peering over the top of them goes on, I'm afraid.

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/03/2010 16:30

Mind you Carol could be like my DP - he has just been prescribed specs (mid 40s). He is very mildly long sighted. I catch him sometimes with his specs on looking at himself in the mirror and doing Kays Catalogue poses. The daft sod

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/03/2010 16:31

Bless him - just remembered he keeps them very safelky in the glasses case and regularly polishes them with the little cloth.

I have worn glasses since I was 12 and god knows where my glasses case is, and I polish my glasses on the hem of my t shirt.

AchillesTortoise · 29/03/2010 16:33

She may have a maths degree (does she?) but she honestly knows nothing about maths education and just trots out all the cliches about standards and going back to basics.

She doesn't go down a storm at the mathsy conferences!
