befor you flame me, I am 100% supportive of our troops(my nephew inlaw has just got abck) but to suggest that no one can moan or strike about thier job, because the soldiers are having it worst seems..........silly, of course they are, but ................... If you work for British Airways, Royal Mail or National Rail and have been or are going on strike, next time you see a soldier who's returned from Afghanistan make sure you tell him/her about your awful working conditions, poor uniform and low pay!! Let me know how you get on . . . . Copy and Paste to your status If you feel they should stop Moaning

sorry there should have been a gap between my post and the status

OP posts:
Ewe · 28/03/2010 22:41

Sorry, why do you hate it?

I mean, it's a bit pointless and not really comparable but I understand the sentiments.

DemonChild · 28/03/2010 22:43

I hate those! So, YANBU

Ignorant, simplistic reactionaries, gah.

tethersend · 28/03/2010 22:44

YANBU. Vile.

groundhogs · 28/03/2010 23:04

Yeah, but somehow the sentiment is not that far off is it?

I hate strikers. In the real world, where the rest of us work, we don't like something, we either suck it up or leave....

They get to hold US to ransom.... bugger the lot of them.

Nonailsrules · 28/03/2010 23:08

I mostly believe people have a right to withdraw their labour - But come on they are the best paid/perked flight crew in the world and its not exactly brain surgery is it - they need to get real IYKWIM - The world is in recession!

tethersend · 28/03/2010 23:09

"suck it up or leave"

Let's hope that you have another job to go to where all employment rights haven't been eroded because nobody did anything then, eh groundhogs?

FFS.

HarderToKidnap · 28/03/2010 23:10

I think we should do a new status

"If you are a soldier endlessly whinging on about your amputated limb, next time you see a child land mine victim make sure you tell him/her about how difficult your rehab exercises are and how much your epensive prosthesis rubs. Let me know how you get on!"

It's a fucking ridiculous statement. There is always someone worse off than you.

vidia · 28/03/2010 23:11

It's difficult. I think the BA strikers do have valid problems with BA, but to make someone suffer who has saved the whole year for a holiday and gets so little time off work is not on. Personally, I will be flying with a different airline during these strikes. I haven't been on holiday for 5 years and I think I would feel pretty cheated if my flights were the subject of a strike. My kids would also be really upset - they've never been on holiday before and both are really excited.

ToccataAndFudge · 28/03/2010 23:12

I agree 2shoes,

Beveridge · 28/03/2010 23:13

But without the right to strike, employers are free to hold their employees to ransom. Is that fair?

BitOfFun · 28/03/2010 23:15

We wouldn't have any workers' rights at all without people striking. It's a basic right IMO. And I still say this after having my dd's flight cocked up.

ElleBing · 28/03/2010 23:16

This is a sticky subject with me. The way I see it is this; those serving in the armed forces CHOSE to do it as a job. They weren't drafted in like in the two world wars, it's a choice. I totally understand the very hard work they do and I understand they work in shite conditions but tbh it's an occupational hazard. Did they really sign up and expect luxury? I'd hate to be a parent of a member of the armed forces but you've got to accept that them's the breaks. It'd be like me choosing to be a chef then complaining that I'd got to chop carrots.

Tinnitus · 28/03/2010 23:17

YANBU.

The whole "troops are all heroes" line get on my tits too. some troops are heroes. why denigrate exceptional bravery with schmaltz.

2shoeskickedtheeasterbunny · 28/03/2010 23:18

OH I THINK THEY ARE HERO'S
but i think telling people they can'y maon ar strike as the soldiers are having it worse is silly.

Trafficcone · 28/03/2010 23:20

Well said hardertokidnap!!! No one conscripted them into the f*cking army. If you don't want to get blown up, don't bloody join up.
I'm sick to the back teeth of support the troops statuses.

DuelingFanjo · 28/03/2010 23:20

I think it's horrible. YANBU.

HarderToKidnap · 28/03/2010 23:24

Just to clarify: I am very grateful that people want to be soldiers. If they are injured whilst doing their job, then they should receive best medical care etc imo. But comparing BA strikers to soldiers is as stupid as comparing soldiers to victims of land mines.

ElleBing · 28/03/2010 23:46

One of my relatives is a marine and his mum is constantly sending me invites to join support groups for the armed forces on Facebook. I haven't the heart to tell her that I'm a lover not a fighter and I couldn;t give two shits about the whole thing. They're hired killers, simples. Sorry if that offends anyone.

juneybean · 28/03/2010 23:49

Not totally on topic but I'm a bit bored of all the "paste this to your status if you agree"

It's no I'm not a sheep thanks!

Tiredmumno1 · 28/03/2010 23:51

I think anyone who strikes without a valid reason should be sacked. And give the job to one of the millions out of work that would actually appreciate it!

I do admire our soldiers but if it were me we would not have got involved, i would use them to secure our own country's streets god only knows we need it.

nobiggy · 28/03/2010 23:53

"93% will not post this as their status..."

And I'm right with them.

Ewe · 29/03/2010 00:08

"No one conscripted them into the f*cking army. If you don't want to get blown up, don't bloody join up.
I'm sick to the back teeth of support the troops statuses."

No, nobody conscripted them, but they might have to conscript you if people didn't choose to join up.

Oh and of course not having the right to strike isn't fair but a capitalist system is inherently NOT fair. It doesn't try to be. Privately owned companies will eventually break the unions, long term I can't see them existing anywhere but the public sector as unfortunately they don't have any real power in such a competitive marketplace.

groundhogs · 29/03/2010 00:12

Sorry, meant to clarify, we have to 'suck it up or leave'. I meant that we do't have much of an option. If people in the Real World go on strike, it's unauthorised absence and we end up in disciplinary.

If we, in private enterprise, strike it only affects us, if others, serving the public at large strike, it affects us.

Only those that work in large organisations CAN strike. Employee rights are pretty weak, if we have an issue, wrongful dismissal, sexual discrimination etc, we have to fund legal advice ourselves. If we lose, we have to pay our costs and the other sides costs.

These union workers have no real issue that validates the idea of a strike. All of us in RL have taken pay cuts and no rises when times are tough. It's called give and take. From what I see, the Underground, Rail workers it's take, take, take.

NEWS FLASH TO THE UNIONS: Times are tough and striking will kill off industry... Don't Strike, THINK!

Gay40 · 29/03/2010 00:21

Union membership is increasing rapidly, and continues to do so in the run up to the election.

And if you don't believe in striking, then you don't believe in equality
