befor you flame me, I am 100% supportive of our troops(my nephew inlaw has just got abck) but to suggest that no one can moan or strike about thier job, because the soldiers are having it worst seems..........silly, of course they are, but ................... If you work for British Airways, Royal Mail or National Rail and have been or are going on strike, next time you see a soldier who's returned from Afghanistan make sure you tell him/her about your awful working conditions, poor uniform and low pay!! Let me know how you get on . . . . Copy and Paste to your status If you feel they should stop Moaning

YANBU, vile status, I suggest you delete your fb friends who put such crap as their status?

probonbon · 29/03/2010 12:02

"vile"?

priorities, priorities

vile?

sungirltan · 29/03/2010 12:09

chegirl- 'But just being in the armed forces doesnt make you a wonderful human being anymore than being a nurse makes you an angel, being a doctor makes you a God or being a priest makes you the epitome of trustworthiness' - i totally, totally agree!

chegirlWILLbeserene · 29/03/2010 12:15

sungirl

I remember Matthew Wright suggesting that (male) service personnel should perhaps be 'let off' if they commit domestic violence because of all the stress they had been through.

Yeah Matthew on behalf of all partners of ex service men I would like to thank you for that thought

ChickensHaveSinisterMotives · 29/03/2010 12:16

Really?! WTF?!

tethersend · 29/03/2010 12:18

The status also assumes that every member of the armed forces does not support the strikers, which is presumptuous at best.

Gay40 · 29/03/2010 15:17

Whether I support the war in or not, I have admiration for those men and women, past and present, who are fighting to preserve human rights best they can.

Remember that most strikes are democratically voted in by members of the union, and that strike action is usually a last resort - often when employers refuse to negotiate or just impose their decisions on employees.

Yes it's annoying not being able to fly on your holidays. It's even more annoying to die in a plane crash because there wasn't enough staff to help everyone out of the plane.

sungirltan · 29/03/2010 17:58

chegirl - really?? farking hell!!!

chegirlWILLbeserene · 29/03/2010 20:26

Yep totally true.

It was when there had been a lot in the news about PSTD and the armed forces. Lots of service men in prison etc. Totally right it shouldve been a topic. My OH got fuck all help when he got out of the army.

But to suggest that somehow being in the forces was a get out of jail free card was mental.

MrsC2010 · 29/03/2010 20:30

I think as a country we owe more to our troops than 'well they signed up for it...'. I am anti the wars going on at the moment and always have been, but I do think we let our troops down. We pack them off to do our bidding, pay them peanuts, don't give them the right equipment and then if they do get severely injured we expect them to live on yet more of a pittance. And then we sit behind our computers commenting on how it was a choice not a draft.

Stiking...a difficult one. I come down on both sides of the fence depending on how I feel that day.

BritFish · 30/03/2010 00:47

LtEveDallas and other thread readers
id like to apologise for using the word i did in my post, as it got deleted, although i was repeating word for word what two young men i met said.
you are very, very fortunate to not have met some of the people i have.
choose not to believe me, thats your call, but i am not a liar.
i do not hold their opinions.
justthisonce
knowing these people are out there representing our country makes me ill.

and LtEveDallas, why in gods name would we make such horrible stuff up? dont you think that your position IN the forces makes you less likely to hear this stuff anyway because the individual would be reported? of COURSE they're not going to say it in front of you.

BritFish - glad you came back to quantify "what two young men I met said"- hardly the same as your "far more young men...." that you posted earlier. Two out of how many exactly...?

And no, I dont think they are less likely to say it in front of me - I see them in all areas remember, on a battlefield, in an office, in a hospital, in prison and on the piss etc. I am surrounded day in day out (and in my own home lol). I see them at their best and their worst - you'd have thought at least one would have slipped up by now if it was so widespread.

I get VERY pissed off when people spout this rubbish when the Military has gone all out to stamp racism right on the head. OF COURSE there will still be some bad apples - there is in every walk of life, but hand on heart I firmly believe that there is LESS racism in the Military now than at any time - and we quickly find those dickheads out.

Anyhoo - back to the topic lol

BritFish · 30/03/2010 13:28

i was directly quoting two young men, but i have met far more who have expressed this attitude who i could not directly quote, this quote stuck in my mind for obvious reasons.
im not spouting rubbish, and cannot believe you are accusing me of lying.
WHY IN GODS NAME WOULD I WANT TO MAKE THIS UP?
why in hell would i make this up, like i WANT racist twats out there with guns???
you can firmly believe there is less racism in the military, but unfortunately you do not know the innermost thoughts of every recruit, neither do i, i can only tell you WHAT I HAVE HEARD. so PLEASE stop accusing me of lying and count yourself LUCKY you havnt come across these people.

probonbon · 30/03/2010 14:06

Britfish, it's clear Eve knows more people in the forces than you and has a more intimate knowledge of it. She has just said "there are some bad apples", she's not denying it ever happens. So I really think in this case I know who I would trust.

Littlestlass · 30/03/2010 15:23

YANBU

I saw the same thing and also got annoyed. Particularly when a mate of the person who posted it then had a go at teachers, nurses and civil servants. For the record I am a CS, but am currently on maternity leave and wouldn't have been striking anyway as am not in the Union (as I frequently think they talk bollocks and that in the department I work in, we're quite lucky).

The point is, they chose to do that as a job knowing the terms and conditions. Now I'm all for them being paid a decent wage as they do a hard job, but that doesn't mean other people don't deserve the same thing. Nurses are horribly undervalued and overworked IMHO and aren't paid enough for what they do.... which less face it, is saving lives, something you could also argue for a member of the armed forces. Why does it have to be an either/or thing?

Mind you, not sure I'd consider BA workers in the same way as a nurse....

BritFish · 31/03/2010 11:29

probonon.
i know she has admitted there are a few bad apples, but she's also accused me of lying, which i cant believe i even have to reiterate, im not
cant believe anyone would think id want to make it up either.
