DDs birthday on tuesday. we bought her present today - she was there and chose it.

but - i say she's not allowed it till tuesday. DH is wavering.

It is a bit crap because she has to go to school and won't get to play with it all day.

She's giving me puppy dog eyes.

I wouldn't give her it either, if I did I would feel duty bound to go and get her something else to open on the day so In my opinion YANBU

Nemofish · 28/03/2010 18:58

BE STRONG!!!

It is my dd's borthday on Tuesday as well, coincidently. But if she gets her pressie now then the day itself won't be as special.

Tell her that's why we don't get Xmas presents until the day itself no matter what.

Elbow your dh in the ribs.

my ds got his present 4 weeks early from my mum, he will be 5 in april and she bought him a bike, she had to take him to the shop to pick the bike and get measured, his birthday is the day the schools go back after the easter break and she thought it was a waste it sitting in her house when he needed it.

GoldenGreen · 28/03/2010 19:04

I would give it. Can't really see why it matters - she'll still get lots of happy birthday wishes from everyone on the actual day.

SecretSlattern · 28/03/2010 19:05

Agree, be strong and do not give in! It will take the shine off of the actual day or you will feel bad and as though you have to get her something else which then defeats the purpose of going out and choosing something especially for the occasion.

Tuesday isn't that far away and it will give her something to look forward to.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 28/03/2010 19:05

how old is she? I think it depends alot on her age.

venusonarockbun · 28/03/2010 19:09

YANBU. Why on earth would you give it early. It spoils the whole point of birthdays when this happens. I used to hate it when MIL used to make the dcs open their presents before their birthdays (in her presence) because we could only visit her on weekends, so was usually a few days before their actual birthdays.

FabIsGettingThere · 28/03/2010 19:11

yanbu

it isn't her birthday yet and while she might say she doesn't mind having nothing on the day - she will when it comes round.

Tell your dh to stop being a push over

EccentricaGallumbits · 28/03/2010 19:11

blimey - for once I am not unreasonable.

She thinks I am though.

Pikelit · 28/03/2010 19:12

I wouldn't give in. It is her birthday present and her birthday is Tuesday. This instant sort of "I need it NOW" gratification isn't the best of habits to get into either. Unless you plan to start giving out Christmas presents the minute they are bought or Easter eggs in January when they first appear in the shops!

FabIsGettingThere · 28/03/2010 19:15

how old is she?

EccentricaGallumbits · 28/03/2010 19:17

will be 12.

I am much too young to have my baby being 12.

OP posts:
Pikelit · 28/03/2010 19:17

If she is old enough to be at school and old enough to choose her own present, she's old enough to wait until Tuesday!

Pikelit · 28/03/2010 19:18

Twelve? She waits. No question!

piscesmoon · 28/03/2010 19:19

There is no way I would give it early-she will enjoy it even more if she waits for it.

EccentricaGallumbits · 28/03/2010 19:20

truth is....

I want to play

it's a Wii game.

OP posts:
FabIsGettingThere · 28/03/2010 19:22

12?!?!?

She waits. Definitely.

Don't you dare give in EG. I will be watching you.

EccentricaGallumbits · 28/03/2010 19:23

but I want to plaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Would it be very obviouse if I have a go tomorrow while she's at school?

OP posts:
FabIsGettingThere · 28/03/2010 19:24

Nothing to stop you playing, would she know, but tbh I think you should wait too .

EccentricaGallumbits · 28/03/2010 19:27

I am rubbish. I'm even worse with my own Birthday. Can't bare waiting.

OP posts:
Galena · 28/03/2010 19:27

Oooh, which game?!

EccentricaGallumbits · 28/03/2010 19:27

or bear waiting? which should it be?

OP posts:
elmofan · 28/03/2010 19:28

of course you should have a go tomorrow while she is in school as you would want to make sure it works properly & dont want your dd being disappointed on her birthday if it doesn't work
that was my DH's excuse at xmas for playing with ds's games lol

clayre · 28/03/2010 20:35

I got 'just dance' for my dd's birthday and i played it loads before her birthday she never knew it had been played!
