to not want to lend my travel cot out if it's going to come back stinking of smoke?

sil asked if she can borrow my nearly new travel cot next week, I said yes, then asked where he was going. She said to her mums where her grandma lives too, but her grandma smokes upstairs-Would I be out of order for changing my mind? I am an ex smoker myself and when DD comes back from her dads, her clothes and stuff stink so they go straight in the washer, but I can't put a travel cot in the washer.

YANBU I wouldnt be happy to do that either.

loumum3 · 25/03/2010 15:23

YANBU I would never let her have it !

Mouseface · 25/03/2010 15:28

YANBU. At all! You'll never get the smell out of the fabric, no matter how much bl00dy Frebreeze (spelling?) you use!!!!! BTDT!!!

NeedCoffee · 25/03/2010 15:30

How do I tell her?

Could you say you got it out to make sure all the parts/bits or whatever were there and something was missing.........something that holds it upright or a really important mechanical bit, rendering it's current state a danger????????????????????

NeedCoffee · 25/03/2010 15:53

LOL don't really like to lie tbh
What does BTDT mean mouseface?
Hmm guess I'll have to just tell her the truth and tough if she doesn't like it. Don't see why mu stuff should stink when I've worked so hard to stop smoking myself. Thanks for all the yanbu

BTDT - been there, done that (re getting stuff back stinking of smoke). Also an ex smoker!!! Tis only a tiny fib, I'm sure you'll still get your angel wings if you do use it!!

Good luck!!

NeedCoffee · 25/03/2010 16:07

LOL my angel wings got singed ages ago, about the same time my halo began choking me

I wear my halo as an ankle braclet these days!!!! Slipped slowly down over the years!! Daren't go to church for any family events for fear of bursting into flames as I cross the threshold!!!!

Skegness · 25/03/2010 16:20

YANBU. Tell her the truth.

jellybeans · 25/03/2010 16:26

YANBU say you forgot but lent it/are lending it to someone else.

NeedCoffee · 25/03/2010 18:25

mouseface.

Text her and said if her grandma is going to be smoking upstairs i'd prefer to not lend it as I don't want it stinking, but she's welcome to borrow/have my old one that's at my mums. She replied saying she'd just buy one as she wont be seeing my mum.
Don't think she's very happy but glad I'm not being unreasonable, most of the family smoke so I'm sure they'll be bitching about me behind my back but never mind.

YANBU

Our midwife told us that summat in the smoke sticks to fabric that is dangerous for babies - its why someone that has been smoking should not cuddle a baby.

I would state this as my reason for changing my mind.

NeedCoffee · 26/03/2010 11:13

Well I don't really like the idea of my dn being in the house when they smoke but there's not a lot I can do. Hopefully the grandma will at least make the effort to go outside while he's there but from past experience I doubt it
