I have just been into my local Halfords to do 3 very simple things. Buy a bike for my sons birthday and ask them to build it for us(a service they include with the purchase of all bikes) order a wheel bag for dh, which they need to order in as it's an online only item but I wanted to pay with gift vouchers but this can only be done in store and finally return an item which was not fit for the job.

So I go in to the shop around 9am, no other customers there so I walk straight up to an employee who begins to help. So far so good. He gets the bike sorted quickly, all fine. Then I ask about the wheel bag. He has to ask someone else, fair enough, but this man sniffs a bit and says 'why do you need one. Won't a bin bag do, My wheels cost £3,000 each and a bin bags fine. Are your wheels more expensive than that?' So I say no(who'd pay that much for wheels??!!) and tell him that my dh has asked me to buy a wheel bag so that's what I want. He then tells the original employee to find and order it online.

I then tell him that I need to return an item. This is where my problem crops up. He firstly tells me that he'll need to process the bike and bag seperately because one is online, one in store. I feel a bit but agree. He then says i'll need to go downstairs for the refund. So he faffs around with the wheel bag, I give him the vouchers. He then has to go and find some small value vouchers from downstairs to give me my change(don't mind this too much as things happen) So we sort that. He then faffs around and orders the bike. I pay. Then I have to go and find someone else to deal with the refund.

So I do go and find another person. She faffs around and can't seem to operate her till. The issue appears to be refunding in vouchers finally she figures her system out and then she doesn't have the right vouchers in her till so has to call a collegue to bring her some. I think she took about 10mins to deal with the refund. I had the receipt so really it should've taken 2mins max. Other customers were getting annoyed with her as she took so long.

This whole fiasco took 45mins

So AIBU to expect to be able to sort these 3 things out in one transaction and also for staff to know how to work the system with regard to store vouchers?

AIBU to expect to not be in the store for 45mins when I was served straight away? I don't mind waiting if there are other customers there first.

AIBU to consider complaining to halfords about their seemingly flawed system?

YANBU

I get annoyed by this sort of incompetence. I worked in retail for about 2 years and words used to fail me at how lazy some of the shop assistants were. A bit of common sense goes a long way - I used to bend over backwards for customers or use a bit of sense and it made a huge difference.

Complain! I love a good complaint

No, yanbu.

I went to my local Halfords to ask about rearfacing carseats and they told me they didn't exist.
