My 10 year old ds has been invited on a day trip where a mum is driving 150 miles, with four children in the car, to take them to a very large, very busy exhibition, looking after them all day, then driving 150 miles home again.I have concerns about the whole undertaking but ds is desperate to go. What should I do?

What are your concerns? The length of the day? The mother? The exhibition?

Personally I think the mother is very stupid brave! But if it's something the all enjoy I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Is the mum used to driving distances? I used to do 300 mile round trips (Durham to Leicester) regularly, and I have to say it was a bit of an ordeal. If she does it regularly she will know it's manageable, but if not, could you offer to chip in for train/bus tickets?

Thanks for replies. I guess I just feel that it's a lot for one person to do in one day, and am therefore concerned that she might not watch children so well or have car accident because of tiredness. She's not in the habit of doing such long trips, and I feel that she's a bit crazy to undertake it.

I suppose there´s nothing closer you could suggest?

No. It's only taking place in one location, and tickets have already been bought. I have suggested going by train, or that I would go with, but for various reasons, neither is possible. I know I'm a bit over-protective, but as I wouldn't consider doing such a day-trip with other people's children, I wish other people wouldn't. It's really kind of her, but I feel I've been put in a kind of no-win situation.
