To feel like I'm being poked by pointy sticks when people file things under the 'wrong' topic?

It's pedantry, I know (and I wrestled with my decision to post here rather than there) but my inner filing clerk is jumping up and down when I read threads in AIBU that ought to be in Food, or Chat or, or, just somewhere else.

Can we have a "This is patently posted in the wrong area" button?

.......and breathe......

YoginiBikini · 17/03/2010 15:32

I think you have posted this in the wrong topic

MaMight · 17/03/2010 15:32

It's always AIBU too isn't it.

"AIBU to buy this handbag?"
YES YABU because this should be posted in style & Beauty.

"AIBU to not know how to cook celeriac?"
YABU

MaMight · 17/03/2010 16:01

AIBU has become That Drawer in the kitchen where you shove stuff that you can't be bothered to put in its proper place.

cornsilk · 17/03/2010 16:04

you know you're tempting us to tease you don't you...

Hassled · 17/03/2010 16:06

When people ask "What Would You Do?" in any topic other than the "WWYD?" one I can't bring myself to reply. I share your pain. Although I did ask a sciency/food question in Chat the other day, and technically it should have been Other Subjects or Food. I flagellated myself for some hours afterwards as penance.

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 17/03/2010 16:10

Not unreasonable at all. It makes me want to slap them on the hand with a ruler

What makes me more cross, however, is when I suggest something and then someone later on suggests the same bloody thing and gets the damn credit!

LittleMrsHappy · 17/03/2010 16:13

Their are various reasons why people post in particular forums, popularity, getting a quick answer, friends etc....

YABU!

snigger · 17/03/2010 16:22

The temptation to sweep through the boards posting "This should be in Good Housekeeping" is always with me.

cornsilk - please don't, you'll make me irritable, you wouldn't like me when I'm irritable

Ooh Hassled WWYD annoys me. Especially when it's in AIBU and the thread title is 'more of a WWYD really'. Just put it there you plonker.

overmydeadbody · 17/03/2010 19:04

I just had to laugh when I saw this thread title juxtapositioned above a thread with the title "I have no idea where to post this"

overmydeadbody · 17/03/2010 19:05

and I agree, I cannot bring myself to reply to people who ask WWUD in any topic other than WWYD

FabIsDoingPrettyWell · 17/03/2010 19:07

I use chat when I want to talk but don't want it to hang around.

overmydeadbody · 17/03/2010 19:07

But having said that,. since I joined years and years ago there seem to be about a hundred more topics that I didn't even know about, and I only ever go on active convos, so might post something in the wrong place because I dont know there is now a topic for it.

snigger · 17/03/2010 19:15

See, that's the gap in my reasoning - you can put what you like in Chat, as far as I'm concerned, as it's catch-all.

It things like "AIBU to need a good cookie recipe" - er, what? Post it in food, fool.

YoginiBikini · 17/03/2010 19:33

Thanks snigger. I'd never heard of Jimeoin but have now lost the last half hour or so watching clips of him on Youtube. Very funny

Pikelit · 17/03/2010 19:51

An internet chum once persuaded me to go onto the sheer hell that is SagaZone - being over 50, I qualified. I can honestly say that I have never, since leaving Mrs Scott's Kindergarten Class, encountered such a terrifying need for things to Be In The Right Place. So terrified was I that I fucked off, pronto, lest whatever the rest of them were on came down the wireless and caught me.

So while I do have a tendency towards pedantry, the existential side of me says life really is too short to exercise oneself over Not Putting That There.

I am, of course, BU myself here. But probably in the right place.

TiggyD · 17/03/2010 21:16

The over 50 year olds need things in the right place. Otherwise they will trip over them and die.

ToccataAndFudge · 17/03/2010 21:19

I generally use chat rather than AIBU for such threads.............such as my most recent thread which I suppose really should be in money matters.

But I do't give a damn, I was (still am) in a bad mood about it and I clicked on the first place that wasn't totally irrelevant

Oh FFS people post here because they get an answer asap, its a CHAT website, get over it!!!!

nighbynight · 17/03/2010 22:01

One of the great advantages of Mumsnet is that it doesnt have moderators popping up saying things like "Please post this in the xxx section." and changing your thread title so that it fits the site style better, and is searchable.

YABU.

snigger · 17/03/2010 22:08

I refuse to consider the possibility that I'm being unreasonable - me and my Dyco labeller say so.
